Welcome to “Geek Bits,” where we share the geekiest bits of the Internet.  Who did the Internet convince to cast Mark Wahlberg? What are some of The Dark Knight Rises blu-ray bonus features? Which actors may be coming back to Star Wars? When do we find out if Alphas is coming back for season three? How did the Avengers end up playing for the orchestra?

    Star Wars: Episode VII

Former stars are lining up to do the new Star Wars movies. Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and even Harrison Ford (Han Solo) said they’d be in the upcoming trilogy, if asked. [via Latinos Post]

Toy Story writer Michael Arndt has written a treatment for not just one but all three Star Wars films

    Hercules

Brett Ratner’s making an adaptation of Hercules starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. No word if Lou Ferrigno will do a cameo.

    Jurassic Park 3D

A new poster and trailer has been released for the 3D conversion of Jurassic Park. Release date is April 5, 2013.

    Man of Steel

Speaking of 3D, Zack Snyder’s superman film will be converted to both 3D and IMAX. This was the plan back in July, but the studio backed off it. They’ve changed their mind again. [via Slash Film]

    Alphas

Executive producer Robert Hewitt Wolfe says he’ll hear if the SyFy show Alphas will return for a third season by the end of the month. He thinks it’s likely the show will be renewed, but he’s not sure if he’ll be coming back. [@writergeekrhw]

    Arrow

Speaking of superhero shows, the best superhero show on right now is Arrow. If that’s not enough to make you watch, Ben Browder (John Crichton on Farscape) guest stars in episode 11. He plays Oliver Queen’s buddy, John Diggle’s, former commanding officer in Afghanistan who now works in security in Starling City. A bunch of armored truck robberies puts him between Oliver and his former bodyguard Dig. [TV Equals]

    The Avengers

Members of the Cleveland Orchestra dressed up as the Avengers. Hulk is pretty good on the cello I hear.

    Transformers 4

The Internet convinced Michael Bay to put Mark Wahlberg into Transformers 4.

“I squashed a rumor that was on the internet last week. It was about Mark Walhberg. Mark was rumored to be staring [sic]in Transformers 4. We are working on another movie together, not T4. I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain and Gain, and he gave such a great performance well let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter”

    Doctor Who

Former Doctor Who, David Tennant will play a droid in Star Wars: The Clone Wars that helps young Jedi build lightsabers. [via Screenrant]

    Twilight Zone

Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company has been trying to make a new Twilight Zone movie for over five years, but Vulture speculates the story centers around ” a test pilot [astronaut] who winds up breaking the speed of light; when he puts down his craft, he discovers that he s landed a bit late for supper 96 years late. ” [via The Mary Sue]

    The Dark Knight Rises

Warner Bros posted a new The Dark Knight Rises sizzle reel teasing the Blu-ray release. Three hours of bonus features and a special on the Batmobiles. Release date is Dec. 4, 2013

    Star Trek

Kate Mulgrew Claims Janeway and Picard Are the Only Starfleet Captains

With all the recent photo ops of the five Captains sitting on the same stage, you might think there’s no animosity left between them. Apparently, you would be wrong. Kate Mulgrew reportedly told Splitsider that her character Captain Janeway and Captain Picard were the only Star Trek captains. This is based on her definition of a Starfleet captain as being one “lost in space for seven years.” Her definition is ridiculously narrow. The only one I’d agree with disqualifying is Benjamin Sisko. I don’t know how you can be a “captain” of a space station any more than you can be a captain of a small town. But I think it’s the height of arrogance to disqualify Kirk, the first Star Trek captain. [via Slice of Scifi]

Do you agree or disagree with Janeway? What are the odds that Shatner will take to YouTube to attack Mulgrew?

    The Amazing Spider-Man

Jamie Foxx Could Have a Shocking Role For The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Jamie Foxx is reportedly in talks to play the supervillain Electro (made of electricity) in Amazing Spider-Man 2. He sort of confirmed it when he post a tweet that his Electro costume for Halloween “fit well.” [via Screenrant]

Would Jamie Foxx make a good supervillain?

i am tired of the 3d conversions… if it wasn't shot in 3d it won't be in 3d… i welcome any new star wars films…. old kirk was captain of his time and with the organized view that the later series brought on the starfleet command… she would be right, but if the new chris pine version of kirk is brought into play, i would say he will be part of the new command… sisko was a captain, but more like a my ship was destroyed and all i could find was this job. the new spiderman was awful, period.

thanks for the solid post… learned plenty!

If a movie wasn't originally shot in 3D or IMAX there's no point to watch it in those formats. I imagine at this point Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher would pick up the phone for just about any offer that came their way. For older fans Star Wars 7 seems like a no-win scenario. You either can have geriatric characters, reboot characters, or another trilogy of new characters we don't give a crap about. Hooray? Anyway, I haven't seen the first Spider-Man reboot yet but I plan to look for it at Redbox tonight. Who releases a DVD on Friday? And stupid Blockbuster even though it said it was "available" gave me the next movie in my queue. This is why I plan to dump them in about a week when I exhaust my queue.

      Sorry Janeway, not my definition.
I've been enjoying Alphas on NetFlix. Find it's easier to just watch a whole season on NetFlix or catch it online. Good to know there will be another season.

    5. Maurice Mitchell on November 15, 2012 7:15 pm

Good point Tony. Taken out of context it could be confusing. She meant she and Picard were the only ones to go into deep space. Confusing, but she had a point.

Mulgrew can say that she and Stewart were the only captains to be represented in Star Trek Nemesis. Otherwise I assume her point was taken out of context.

    7. Maurice Mitchell on November 15, 2012 7:15 pm

I don't understand where they can go with Alphas. The season finale killed off everyone but Gary. I've never seen a show do that. I expect it to end there to be honest.

    8. Maurice Mitchell on November 15, 2012 7:15 pm

Pat, I'm still willing to give conversion a chance, but of Lucasfilm's money couldn't make it work then it probably never will. I just got TAS on video from Red Box, so I'm watching it for the second time!

    9. Maurice Mitchell on November 15, 2012 7:15 pm

Jeremy, the 3D Star Wars is a good example of how conversion doesn't always work. On the other hand, I do love 3D movies. So if the technology gets better out might be worth it. Sisco was a good captain, but Kirk is still king.

    10. Maurice Mitchell on November 15, 2012 7:15 pm

He's always good for an LOL Tom.

    11. Maurice Mitchell on November 15, 2012 7:15 pm

      Pretty funny Tony.

      She just sounds bitter MPax.

    13. Maurice Mitchell on November 15, 2012 7:15 pm

I saw there's a Shatner app. I think that was on Twitter the other day. How can you say Kirk wasn't a starfleet captain? I'm curious what they'll do with the new Star Wars.
