After 46 Years a Superhero Returns to Live-Action TV

There was a time when live-action superheroes were all over television. Heroes like Hulk, Wonder Woman, and Superman dominated television screens.

But the last time this superhero was seen in live-action was in 1976.  The Amazing Spider-Man starring Nicholas Hammond as Peter Parker / Spider-Man ran for two seasons back in the 1970s. But that’s changing next year.

After Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir became one of the outstanding characters in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, rumors began to circulate about giving the character his own series. Those suspicions appeared to come true this week when Amazon revealed the first still pictures of Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir in their new live-action series for Prime Video.

    Watch the first trailer:

Spider-Noir is slated to premiere in the United States on MGM+ in 2026 before being released worldwide, including in the United States, on Amazon Prime Video. The series will include eight episodes and will be available in both black-and-white and full-color formats.

Spider-Noir is planned to launch in 2026 and will be available in both black and white and color, which piqued our interest when we read about it. Though Nicolas Cage reprises his character from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the series has been regarded as more closely resembling Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir comic book. The drama will follow an aged and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York who must deal with his prior existence as the city’s sole superhero.

    The first pic is below:

The initial photographs for Spider-Noir do not reveal anything about the plot, as one would expect from a film under development every year. However, they do indicate how the show will eventually seem. Spider-Man’s image in this location is reminiscent to Sin City. Amazon appears to be attempting to bridge the gap between the animated picture and the lush detective noir flavor of the original book, and we are extremely interested to see it.

We had serious reservations about this series when we first heard about it, but the fact that there will be a black-and-white version and that it will be based on the Spider-Man Noir comic book rather than simply rehashing jokes from Into the Spider-Verse has piqued our interest in the Spider-Noir series coming from Amazon. Give us a hard-hitting detective story featuring Nicolas Cage’s remarkable ability to play any role, no matter how ludicrous, or deadly serious.

Amazon has revealed the first photos of Spider-Noir ahead of the show’s 2026 premiere on Prime Video.
