Would You Rather: Have the Perfect Body or the Perfect Mind?

It’s Tuesday, and that means another game of “Would You Rather,” where we ask you to make the tough choices. In last week’s question, “Would you rather own the Enterprise or the Death Star,” 62% chose the Enterprise. Today’s subject will be about mind over matter.

    The Scenario

You return to Wood University as a test subject, and Dr. Rather explains he has a new experiment. He can transform your body at the expense of your mind or supercharge your mind at the expense of your body. Which would you choose?

    The Ground Rules

    • If you choose the perfect mind, you’ll get just that. Your intelligence will be boosted to ultra-genius levels, making you the greatest mind ever. You’ll be able to solve mathematical equations with ease. You’ll have perfect memory, able to remember all of human history in the blink of an eye. You’ll have an intuitive and extraordinary skill at music, language, art, science, and psychology, and all other mental disciplines.
    • The procedure to boost your intelligence will paralyze your body below the neck. You’ll be a quadriplegic. Over time, even with physical therapy, your body will atrophy and become useless.
    • If you choose the perfect body, you’ll get just that. You’ll be immune to all illnesses, and will never get sick. You’ll lose weight and gain muscle without any need to exercise. You can eat whatever you want, and it won’t hurt you in any way. You’ll grow older, but won’t suffer most of the debilitating effects of age. The only thing that can kill you will be physical injury.
    • The procedure to boost your body will cause severe brain injury. Your IQ will drop to just above clinical mental retardation. You’ll be able to perform basic living skills, such as getting dressed, using the bathroom, and feeding yourself. However, you’ll have problems understanding what people say, and being understood. You can’t learn new things, and will have forgotten most of what you’ve learned.
    • You can’t have both.
    • You have to choose one or the other.

Make your choice, and let us know why in the comments.

I have to go with perfect body because is nothing below the neck worked, my wife would be very bummed.

      And so would I.

I just read an article on Scientific America the other day about how the brain can change the body and enhance everything, making people lose weight, enhance their eyesight, boost endurance. I feel despite your saying that atrophy would be the end result that a more powerful brain might be able to tap unknown potential to rejuvenate the body.

Or if that fails, you could design a heck of a mech suit.

Beats losing a piece of yourself for sure.

I would love to have a conversation with Stephen Hawking on his level. No pun intended.

You'd get laid a lot more with the perfect body.
