Which Simpsons character makes a perfect Akira character? What 80s remake is getting a director? Where is the George Lucas Star Wars
museum going to be? Why are people scared Marvel’s losing the Avengers?
How would the Spider-Man kiss scene look if MJ were a dog?

I’d love to hear what you think of the Internet’s greatest moments in this week’s “Geek Bits.”

    By the Way…

There’s a new Geek Twins coming! We’re not
making a big deal about it, but along with the new look will be some
    significant changes behind-the-scenes. Stay tuned…

‘WarGames’ Remake Lands Director and Screenwriter (/Film)

Sure, why not drop news of another reboot? The ’80s film WarGames,
which originally starred Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy, is being
remade by MGM. (The studio has already created a series of other
remakes, including RoboCop, Carrie, and Red Dawn, and has Poltergeist and The Town That Dreaded Sundown to come.) Now the studio is poised to hire Dean Israelite to direct and Arash Amel to write the WarGames remake.

    The Last Ship (2014) (01×01) “Phase Six”[Recommended]

    The Last Ship (2014) (Source)

    Official Synopsis: This
summer, TNT is going to take take viewers on an action-packed ride with
the exciting new drama series The Last Ship, starring Eric Dane (Grey’s
Anatomy) and executive-produced by blockbuster filmmaker Michael
Bay(Transformers). The Last Ship opens with a global catastrophe that
nearly decimates the world’s population. Because of its positioning,
the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan Jamesavoids falling victim to the
devastating tragedy. But now, Captain Tom Chandler (Dane) and his crew
must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they
may be among the few remaining survivors.Rhona Mitra (Strike Back)
plays Rachel Scott, a strong-willed, intelligent and fearless
paleomicrobiologist assigned to the ship. Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Chuck)
is XO Mike Slattery, a former homicide detective and Chandler’s
second-in-command. Also starring in The Last Ship are Travis Van
Winkle (Heart of Dixie), Charles Parnell(Pariah),Christina
Elmore (Fruitvale Station),Sam Spruell(Snow White and The Huntsman)
and Marissa Neitling(Leverage). Based on William Brinkley’s popular
novel, The Last Shipcomes to TNT from Bay’s Platinum Dunes and its
partners, Brad Fullerand Andrew Form, whose credits include the
upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Bay, Fuller and Form serve as
executive producers, along with showrunner Hank Steinberg(Without a
Trace, The Nine), Steven Kane (The Closer) and director Jack
Bender (Lost). Steinberg and Kane wrote the series pilot, which was
    directed by Jonathan Mostow (U-571).
This show about a ship stuck in the ocean after a global pandemic is really good, and since both Arrow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
are done for the season, there’s plenty of time to watch it. Eric Dane
does a great job as the Commander Tom Chandler although he lacks a
certain gravitas. He would have been better cast as the executive
officer. On the other hand, Adam Baldwin rocks as the XO and should
have been the captain. Jonathan Mostow does a great job giving it a
    feeling of isolation and desperation.

Thanks for linking my site. You're the best!
I need a DeLorean stretch limo. I don't know what I'd do with it, but I need one. haha
However I'm pretty sure I can live without a WarGames remake. Unless they agree to use the old modem from the original. High-tech stuff. They should remake the sequel. There's a movie so bad it was kind of funny.

    2. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 27, 2014 3:31 pm

Just saw that they are making another Pacific Rim – awesome! More monsters, more robots.
Do we really need a War Games reboot? Sorry, redundant question…

    3. Pat Dilloway on June 27, 2014 3:36 pm

Significant behind the scenes changes? That sounds ominous. Or maybe you'll reveal there's a Geek Triplet? Or Geek Quadruplet?

So apparently all MGM is doing these days is terrible remakes and all those listed did suck. War Games was so 80s I don't see how you can really make it work for modern times.

I don't know why Lucas is putting that museum in Chicago. What relevance does Chicago have to Star Wars? San Francisco would have made more sense since that's around his home base.

    4. Tony Laplume on June 27, 2014 5:41 pm

Are the Mitchells being replaced by the Snitchells, who spoil everything???

    5. Maurice Mitchell on June 27, 2014 7:35 pm

Did I miss a spoiler warning on something Tony?

    6. Meradeth Snow on June 27, 2014 7:37 pm

Can we just stop with the remakes? War Games is one of my all time favorites and I just can't imagine it being better in any way. Ugh. In other randomness: have you seen the other recent film by the makers of Akira? I was wandering the web the other day and noticed it. Looking forward to checking it out.

    7. Maurice Mitchell on June 27, 2014 7:37 pm

Don't worry Pat, it's just rampaging kill-bots. Yeah, I can't imagine a WarGames movie being good. At best it'll be "OK" like the Robocop remake. Chicago must have had the best tax incentive.

    8. Maurice Mitchell on June 27, 2014 7:37 pm

Its like the best and worst of all upcoming movies Alex.

    9. Maurice Mitchell on June 27, 2014 7:39 pm

The WarGames sequel was horrid Tim! It was so self-aware it was terrible. You could feel everyone making it thinking, "this isn't as good, but…" I might get remarried for the DeLorean but a prom would work too. That article was fun Man. I had to squeeze it in the top ten.

    10. Maurice Mitchell on June 27, 2014 7:47 pm

I haven't Meradeth! I'll check it out! Do you have a link?

    11. Shannon Lawrence on June 27, 2014 9:57 pm

I hadn't heard of The Last Ship, but it sounds good. Also, I would always opt for a stretch DeLorean over a limo. Always.

    12. Tony Laplume on June 28, 2014 9:44 pm

No. But I was guessing what the shakeup would be behind scenes. And trying to be funny. Emphasis on "trying." I never win those caption contests!

    13. Maurice Mitchell on June 28, 2014 10:31 pm

Oh. LOL Sorry. I was scared my review has spoilers somewhere.
