What Star Wars TV movie is thirty years old? What actor hated working in Thor 2? Are superheroes just for boys? Find out these and more in this week’s Geek Bits!

    1. Starwars.com covers the 30th anniversary of the second most hated Star Wars TV special with 9 Things You Never Knew About The Ewok Adventure. Number one: “One of the early working titles for The Ewok Adventure was The Ewok Holiday Special.”

    2. The Atlantic asks: Will Film’s Black Superheroes Ever Get to Save the World?

Traditionally, movies have done a curious thing with black heroes: Charge them not with saving the world, but rather with protecting their immediate, ethno-specific domains, or, in many cases, to put it bluntly, the ghetto.

    3. Tesco removes sign suggesting superheroes are ‘for boys’ after Twitter backlash

Tesco has removed a sign next to a superhero alarm clock reading “fun gifts for boys” from its stores after a social media backlash inspired by a seven-year-old girl.

    4. Rumor: 2016 Star Wars Spin-Off Movie Plot Revealed – Slashfilm reported a rumored spin-off Star Wars movie that would involve the theft of the plans for the Death Star, an intergalactic Ocean’s 11.

    5. Disappointing report from Cinemablend that Idris Alba Hated Shooting Thor 2.

And in between takes I was stuck there, fake hair stuck on to my head with glue, this f—ing helmet, while they reset. And I’m thinking: ‘24 hours ago, I was Mandela.’ … Then there I was, in this stupid harness, with this wig and this sword and these contact lenses. It ripped my heart out.” – Idris Elba

    6. Variety reported that Oscar Isaac has been cast as Apocalypse in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. (via Comic Book Resources)

I can't blame him for not liking all that makeup and stuff. Especially with all those hot lights and then you have to do multiple takes. But still, the money has to be nice. I was 7 when the Ewok Adventure came out so I remember not thinking it was terrible, though that opinion would probably change now.

It's got to be disappointing for Elba, because it's such an inconsequential, insubstantial role. if you're going to use Idris Elba, much less bring him back for a second appearance, use the guy! He's the second best actor, at least, in the Thor movies, after Tom Hiddleston (although after three appearances, it's definitely time to do something different with Loki, because Hiddleston is starting to be exposed). He'd make a better Thor than Chris Hemsworth.

Alba, you signed on for it.
I'm guessing the Star Wars Holiday Special is the most hated. Riff Trax tackled that one recently – I'm dying to watch it!

i feel so old, i watched the holiday specials… and glue my hair, it will grow back and then i can say… i was in a marvel film. i was in the man of steel film, why not do the crossover. 🙂
