7 Things Learned From STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trading Cards

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) – Rey (Daisy Ridley)

A few weeks back the official Star Wars site announced the Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast using retro-styled digital trading cards. Director J.J. Abrams told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m only sorry we couldn’t give everyone a stick of gum.” He also added that there is a significance to the numbering, so keep your eyes out for

While it’s great to hear the names there are also some other cool things hidden in the cards.

    **** WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS ****

    #11 — BB-8 on the move

    #53 — Poe Dameron in his X-Wing

#67 — Kylo Ren ignites his Lightsaber

#74 — Rey on her Speeder

#76 — Finn on the run

#81 — Stormtroopers prepare for battle

    #88 — X-Wings in Formation

    #96 — The Millennium Falcon

Here are the names of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens characters so far. BB-8, Finn, played by John Boyega, Ren, played by Daisy Ridley,  Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac and Kylo Ren, played by an unknown actor (rumor is Adam Driver).

    1. Finn is a Former Stormtrooper

There are plenty of rumors as far back as October that Boyega’s character is a former Stormtrooper. We already listed that as a possible explanation for why Boyega is in a Stormtrooper outfit and this seems to cofirm it. The title of his card says “on the run.” From who? Probably the rest of his squad.

    2. Last Name Hidden

The cards obviously tell us the character names, but what’s even more interesting is what’s not there. We know the last name of Kylo and Poe, but Finn and Rey’s last name is hidden. That means it’s a spoiler. Its most likely the last name of a returning character. We know Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) are back. So, they’re either named Skywalker, Solo or (a huge spoiler) Organa. The children of the original characters are a huge part of the expanded universe, so this would make sense.

Of course, Finn’s last name could be Calrissian which would be amazing since up till now Billy Dee Williams name isn’t on the list of cast members. It’s also possible they’re last name is Chewbacca, but that’s just too horrifying to think about.

    3. New Speeder

There are several vehicles called speeders in the Star Wars universe. There are the Speeder Bikes from the Endor chase in Return of the Jedi. Darth Maul’s speeder from Episode I and Luke’s Landspeeder from A New Hope. Now we get to see a new one and it’s a strange looking thing.

    4. Sith Lightsaber

Kylo Ren ignites his lightsaber which is obviously Sith from its red color. This isn’t some lightsaber he found lying around or borrowed. While the Emperor has been killed there is obviously a return of the Dark Side.

    5. Stormtrooper War

The title prepare for battle implies an all out war with the Stormtroopers

    6. X-Wing War

These ships aren’t just flying around. They’re in formation which implies they’re an organized squadron of pilots. If it’s a time of peace why would there be a need for fighter pilots? This is clearly a time of war

    7. There will be 132 cards

The cards have stayed very true to the style, color and design of the original trading card sets so the numbering will be the same as well.

What do you think of the trading cards?

Other than Lando the only black character I can think of is Padme's guard from the prequels. I suppose he could be adopted by one of the other characters.

Last name Chewbacca? That would be awful.
I still have some of the original cards from 1977.

    3. Pat Dilloway on December 29, 2014 8:19 pm

It would be cool if he were related to Mace Windu. Jedi aren't supposed to have kids but maybe he had a sister or something.

I want to bugger Daisy Ridley (as the bird was in 2010 when the bird was 18, not as the bird is now obviously). Such a shame shes British rubbish though.

Maurice, Nigel, Happy New Year, have a great 2015 my old mates.

Tami was stunning in 1984, her arse was pure gold.

Cool that you have the cards Alex because they're classics

I never thought about adoption Pat.

Yeah Mace would be cool since it would justify his untimely death.

    11. Maurice Mitchell on December 30, 2014 3:45 am

Good point but all clues seem to be pointing that way

      😉

    14. Tony Laplume on December 30, 2014 4:27 pm

Even if it's not his name, "Finn Calrissian" would be an awesome one.
