The Maze Runner (2014) –Not Recommended

    iamyourtargetdemographic.com

    Official Description: “When Thomas
wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has
no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a
mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together
fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas
hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape. Based upon the
    best-selling novel by James Dashner.
    ”

    30 Second Version

Thomas: Oh no. I’m in a maze and I don’t know why

Random Lord of the Fly Kid: No you’re not. You’re just looking at a maze and you don’t know why.

Thomas: Oh no. I’m being chased by monsters in the maze and I don’t know why.

Random Lord of the Fly Kid:  No you’re not. You just killed the monsters in the maze and I know why. Ouch. I’m dead.

Thoomas: Oh no. I found a way out of the maze and it was all a big experiment by evil scientists, but I don’t know why.

Random Lord of the Fly Kid:  Yes you do. It just doesn’t make sense. See you in the next two movies!

While the concept is original, the biggest problem with Maze Runner
is most of the movie isn’t in the maze. Plus, the twist in the end of
the origins of the Maze and where they come from leaves more questions
than answers. It’s setting up a book series but, unless there are
massive twists ahead, the explanation makes even less sense.

    Transcendence (2013) – Not Recommended

    www.allthatsepic.com

    Official Description: “Dr. Will
Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of
Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that
combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the
full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have
made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of
anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him.
However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become
the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own
transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max
Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if
they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s
thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for
power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming
terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.”

    30-Second Version

Will: One day computers will take over the world. Ouch. I’m dying.

Evelyn: We’ll put you in a computer, but please don’t take over the world.

Max: I don’t think this is a good idea. He’ll turn evil.

Will: I’m a computer and will take over the world. Ouch. People are trying to kill me.

Evelyn: We put him in a computer, but he’s not trying to take over the world.

Max: I don’t think this is a good idea. He’s evil.

Will: Well it’s been a few years, so I’ll start taking over the world now.

Evelyn: I think he might be trying to take over the world.

    Will: Ouch I’m dead.

    Evelyn: Ouch. I’m dead.

Max: I knew that wasn’t a good idea.

All the actors give impressive performances, especially Rebecca Hall as
she’s torn between her love for her husband and the monster he’s
becoming (or is?). The film looks gorgeous thanks to first-time
director Pfister, but movie eventually gets so big that it falls apart.
It would have been better to tell a smaller story and focus on the main
    characters.

    Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Shadows” (02×01) – Recommended

    Official Description: “Coulson and
his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources–but that’s
not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen
threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will
    S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?”

The intro with Agent Carter proves the upcoming series will be amazing. Most of the popular episodes last season were written by Jed Whedon
& Maurissa Tancharoen so this one doesn’t disappoint. We get a
great villain in “Crusher Creel” (known in the comics as “The Absorbing
Man”) and the new team dynamic really pops as everyone starts to
question the path ahead. We get back to the stoic Coulson of the movies
and all the rest of the cast gets to shine.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Heavy Is the Head” (02×02) – Recommended

    Official Description: “Hunted and
running out of solutions, Coulson puts his team right in the line of
fire in the hopes of saving them all. But with General Talbot, Hydra
and Creel all on the attack, can they possibly survive? Meanwhile, a
mysterious Doctor (Kyle MacLachlan) harbors some dangerous secrets that
could destroy one of our core team members.”

The search for the obelisk led the team onto another chase episode.
Creel returns and is still awesome proving that Marvel has the
confidence to give the show some great villains from the comic books.
Another great episode and a breath of fresh air.

Doctor Who “Robot of Sherwood”(08×03) – Not Recommended

Official Description: “When robots threaten Sherwood Forest, the Doctor must join forces with Robin Hood.”

I didn’t really like this episode. The homur seemed missplaced and the action weak. Altogether my least favorite episode so far.

Doctor Who “Time Heist” (08×05) – Recommended

    Official Description: “The Doctor is
given a task he cannot refuse – to steal from the most dangerous bank
in the cosmos. With the help of a beautiful shape-shifter and
cyber-augmented gamer, the Doctor and Clara must fight their way past
deadly security and come face to face with the fearsome Teller: a
creature of terrifying power that can detect guilt…”

While the “Teller” is not nearly as scary as he’s supposed to be the
characters and setup makes it a great episode. The twist of the origins
of the heist and the ultimate goal were satisfying.

Doctor Who “The Caretaker” (08×06) – Recommended

    Official Description: “The terrifying
Skovox Blitzer is ready to destroy all humanity – but worse, and any
second now, Danny Pink and the Doctor are going to meet.”

For some reason I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum of most critics. I really enjoyed this episode

    Gotham “Pilot” (01×01) – Recommended

    www.nerdcoremovement.com

    Official Description: “A new recruit
in Captain Sarah Essen’s Gotham City Police Department, Detective James
Gordon is paired with Harvey Bullock to solve one of Gotham’s
highest-profile cases: the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. During his
investigation, Gordon meets the Waynes’ son, Bruce, now in the care of
his butler Alfred Pennyworth, which further compels Gordon to catch the
killer. Along the way, Gordon must confront gang boss Fish Mooney, as
well as many of Gotham’s future villains, such as Selina Kyle and Oswald
Cobblepot. Eventually, Gordon is forced to form an unlikely friendship
with Wayne, one that will help shape the boy’s future in becoming the
    Dark Knight.”

While some parts are kind of strange I love the original take on the characters.

      SPOILER ALERT!
Okay, I am not sure about SHIELD this year my wife and I have been very unsure of the direction. It's like they are trying to be like WINTER SOLDIER the tv version and too many sub-plots happening. I am thinking is that they spent a year making us like this original team, I get it… it was a plan to introduce Hydra. May has become the mother, Skye the daughter, Fitz the wobble son, Simmons the sneak and Ward the well Hydra-dork. I know that is the key group minus Phil, but he is MIA… except now his secret. Hey, it's alien tech and it seems lucky us… Skye's dad is it's keeper… though I do love the lady in the flowered dress, hubba! I also don't know if Lucy is dead, she might be a recruit for future "super soldier" experiments.

Not watching much else this year, been working early holiday hours… or at least the voices in my head are. lol!
