Watch the Deleted Scene from DOCTOR WHO’s “Robots of Sherwood”

Doctor Who (2010) “Vincent and the Doctor” – Amy Pond (Karen Gillan)

If you watched the last episode of Doctor Who you missed something pretty important. Find out what it is.

Learn why I posted the above image at the end of the post.

Last Saturday, the Doctor Who episode “Robots of Sherwood” aired and there was one scene missing. After the tragic death of US journalist Steven Sotloff by Islamic State (ISIS) militants last week BBC decided to cut a scene. A BBC spokesman said “In light of recent news events, we have made an edit to episode three out of respect.” The reason given was, “The scene has been reported to feature a beheading of a character during the episode, which in light of the murder of journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff has been considered inappropriate for this broadcast.”

“Robot of Sherwood” is the third episode of the eighth series of Doctor Who, the British science fiction television show about a time traveling “Time Lord” known as “The Doctor.” The episode was written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Paul Murphy, and first broadcast on September 6, 2014. The episode stars Peter Capaldi as “The Doctor” and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. It guest stars Tom Riley as Robin Hood and Ben Miller as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

On August 18, 2014, a rough version of the episode was leaked online. It’s black-and-white, and the visual and audio effects and music are pretty rough. So far, three episodes have been leaked including “Deep Breath” and “Into the Dalek”. The BBC urged fans not to spread spoilers from the script and episodes. Doctor Who fans have been phenomenal in supporting this initiative. We never even looked for it until after we watched it. But, now that the episode has aired, we can’t see any harm in sharing what was cut. But first…

    *** SPOILER WARNING ***

    So, what was cut?

In the final battle between Robin Hood and the Sheriff Robin cuts off the Sheriff’s head. The head then rolls to the ground and starts talking.

SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM: I forgot to mention M’Lady that the skyship fell on me. And my rude mechanical friends took good care of me. Very good.

    CLARA: You’re a robot too.

SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM: Half of me M’Lady. The rest of me is talent and pure flair!

THE SHERIFF’S BODY HOLDS A SWORD AT CLARA’S NECK.

SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM: Surrender or the wench dies.

ROBIN HOOD THROWS THE SHERIFF HIS HEAD WHICH HE REATTACHS

    SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM: Thank you

ROBIN HOOD: Call it a sporting gesture. One which will cost you.

    THE SWORD FIGHT CONTINUES

After that it continues as aired. It’s a pretty big cut when you think about it. Without it, you have no idea there’s anything different about the Sheriff.

What do you think of the cut scene? Do you think it’s good that it was cut out? Do you miss Tina?

I don't watch the show, so can't comment. But amazing the scene is full of sunflowers! What a great tie in for the sunflowers for Tina, guys. She would like that.

    2. Sherry Ellis on September 8, 2014 3:22 pm

It's probably in good taste that they eliminated that scene!

    3. Maurice Mitchell on September 8, 2014 3:34 pm

Thanks Alex! The whole episode was kind of tribute to sunflowers since it was about Vincent Van Gogh and his famous sunflower painting.

    4. Maurice Mitchell on September 8, 2014 3:34 pm

Yeah, the timing was bad Sherry.

    5. DAVID WALSTON on September 8, 2014 4:28 pm

Vincent and the Doctor is one of my favourite episodes, excellent choice for Tina.
As far as the scene being cut I didn't know it was the sheriff that was beheaded.
It makes sense in context with his hands trying to come out of the gold , but hardened before he could get out.

I missed it, the Doctor Who episode… though I am looking to watch soon… thank you for the great crossover to Tina… brilliant and thank you!

    7. Katy on September 8, 2014 4:44 pm

Based on the gifs, it doesn't seem to have lost anything without the headless scene.

    8. Nicole on September 8, 2014 7:16 pm

I still have yet to watch an episode of "Doctor Who" and even forgot what channel it comes on, but I love the way you incorporated this show and your discussion of the scene from the show into a tribute to Tina. She would totally dig it!

Although I have yet to watch an episode of "Doctor Who," your sunflower tribute to Tina with a scene from the series is a clever one indeed. Kudos to you, Maurice!

    10. Jay Noel on September 8, 2014 7:52 pm

I think that was wise of the BBC. Just the timing of it all. But you're right, that was a substantial cut. And you posted a pic of one of my favorite episodes!

    11. Al Diaz on September 8, 2014 7:56 pm

Too bad I've never seen Doctor Who. That spoiler is funny.
And awesome picture for Tina's tribute! I would like so many sunflowers in the cave. 🙂

    12. Clarissa Draper on September 8, 2014 7:59 pm

Wow, super creepy deleted scene but I can see why BBC took it out.
