Who runs on walls in X-Men? What sci-fi show is getting another reboot? Where can you buy a life-size Han Solo in Carbonite? What would happen if Mario really hurt himself?

I’d love to hear what you think of the Internet’s greatest moments in this week’s “Geek Bits.”

    By the Way…

The Star Wars vs. Star Trek championship game is this weekend! Guess the winner and win a $5 Amazon gift card!

    10. Battlestar Galactica Is Getting Rebooted As A Movie Franchise (via io9)

Universal has put the long-rumored Battlestar Galactica movie on the fast track. Variety says the movie will be a “a complete reimagining of the story,” which will be written by Transcendence screenwriter Jack Paglen.

    9. Quicksilver In Actual Action In New X-Men: Days Of Future Past Image (via Bleeding Cool)

So far, Marvel is winning the battle for the hearts of fans of Quicksilver thanks to the brief appearance in Captain America 2. Sony is still trying to win us over though.

“That is the bulk of Quicksilver’s presence in this film. They need
somebody who can help them get in and out of somewhere. And the idea is
that Logan knew him in the future and so they go to try to find his
younger self. The way we conceived him is a sort of an ADD kid.
Everything he does is just popping and zipping around. He doesn’t take
anything seriously. He’s not in a situation for more than a few seconds.
So it infused the movie with an energy that was really useful for us.” – producer Simon Kinberg

    8. Sideshow Collectibles Life-Size Han Solo In Carbonite Figure (via GeekTyrant)

For a cool $6,999 you can own the Sideshow Collectibles 7
1/2 foot tall screen-accurate replica of Han Solo in Carbonite. 7
grand? Geez, who do I have to throw into a Sarlacc pit for someone to
buy this for me? Harrison Ford’s horrifying, frozen mug is just the decor my living room needs.

    4. Star Wars Documentary EMPIRE OF DREAMS — Watch the full 2.5 Hours Online (via GeekTyrant)

The 2004 documentary Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy
is available to watch online. When it originally aired on A&E, they
cut an hour, so if you watched it on TV, you missed a big chunk. The
full 2.5 hours was posted on Youtube in 2012, but we’re just discovering
it now. It’s got great commentary from all the original cast and crew.
Thanks to The Film Stage for finding this gem.

    2. Cosplay We Love: Rad Rocket Raccoon (via Blastr)

    1. NBC Press Day: ‘Sharknado 2′ Blows Up Sharks With Bombs While Keeping Characters ‘Grounded’ (via Deadline)

“We’re making a movie called ‘Sharknado’ and if you don’t embrace it you
end up with a movie that’s not fun. We were trying to emulate a
blockbuster movie with their craft service budget for a day,”  director Anthony C. Ferrante
explained. “This new bit of science fiction is not about “military and
scientists…it’s blowing up sharks with bombs. We always try to ground the characters as much as possible.”

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (01×17) “Turn, Turn,  Turn” (Recommended)

Warning: Do NOT watch this episode or read this review if you haven’t seen Captain America 2!

Synopsis: “Coulson and his team find
themselves without anyone they can trust, only to discover that they
are trapped with a traitor in their midst, on ‘Marvel’s Agents of
    S.H.I.E.L.D.'”

This is the best episode of the season. a truly shocking episode as
each character acts completely different than they normally do.
Coulson’s less emotional. Skye is serious. May is more emotional. Fitz
and Simmons are more independent. Ward turns into a cold killer. The
changes to the characters works so I hope they stay this way.
unpredictable. The revelation that Garrett is the Clairvoyant is only
slightly less mind blowing than Ward killing all the agents in cold
    blood.

    The 100 (01×01) “‘Pilot”

    Synopsis: “Ninety-seven years
ago, nuclear Armageddon decimated planet Earth, destroying
civilization. The only survivors were the 400 inhabitants of 12
international space stations that were in orbit at the time. Three
generations have been born in space, the survivors now number 4,000,
and resources are running out on their dying “Ark” – the 12 stations
now linked together and repurposed to keep the survivors alive.
Draconian measures including capital punishment and population control
are the order of the day, as the leaders of the Ark take ruthless steps
to ensure their future, including secretly exiling a group of 100
juvenile prisoners to the Earth’s surface to test whether it’s
    habitable.””

A powerful new series that could be The Hunger Games
in space, but its original and compelling. Eliza Taylor is amazing as
the tough leader Clarke Griffin and the show has real potential. The
fact that it starts with Firefly style music doesn’t hurt.

    Movies

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

    Synopsis : “After the cataclysmic
events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The
Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly
in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when
a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in
a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining
forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the
ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent
to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous
plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help
of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up
against an unexpected and formidable enemy – the Winter Soldier.”

Whatever your favorite Marvel film is, this one is number two. Every
character, including Fury jumps off the screen and comes to life. The
film raises important questions about liberty and freedom all while
creating brain bending action scenes. The reveal of the Winter Soldier
wasn’t a surprise to me but I knew the character already. Great film.

    Books

Chronos Commandos Volume 1: Dawn Patrol*

    Synopsis: When the Allies and
Nazis develop time-diving technology that could see the course of the
Second World War derailed by creatures from the Cretaceous, only the
Sarge and his band of misfit soldiers can save the future – by saving
history! Dinosaurs! Giant crocodiles! Time travel! Nazis! Albert
Einstein with a machine gun! All that barely scratches the surface of
    this astounding, fully-painted pulp spectacular!
A really fun war comic mashed with sci-fi. Brilliant.* Provided by Titan Books. All opinions and views are by the author and no compensation or sponsorship was made.

I know it's nitpicking as it is a funny video, but Mario uses his hand to break the bricks, not his head.

As big of a Whovian as I am, I think I might have to draw the line at those shoes. Now the K9 slippers… Well, that's entirely different.

    2. Alex J. Cavanaugh on April 11, 2014 3:59 pm

      The Fillion photos are awesome!
Captain America is one of the best superhero films ever created. I was so stoked to watch S.H.I.E.L.D. on Tuesday, knowing what was coming.
Do we really need another Battlestar Galactica?

    3. Pat Dilloway on April 11, 2014 4:08 pm

Maybe now Ward can kill everyone (including himself) and then they can start over after Coulson is revived yet again. So bummed Arrow was a rerun this week; it better we worth the wait next week. This is why I like binge watching on Netflix so much better. If I'm up to it tomorrow after my root canal maybe I'll go see Cap 2. Everyone's saying it's good.

    4. Nicki Elson on April 11, 2014 4:12 pm

I don't think Nathan Fillion can ever do anything wrong.

    5. DAVID WALSTON on April 11, 2014 4:37 pm

The picture of Ash and Captain Tightpants is Epic.
Poor Luigi you think he would have learned from his brothers mistakes.
Winter Soldier IS the best Marvel movie.

    6. MsMariah on April 11, 2014 5:07 pm

Great geek bits guys. Good finds. Thanks. I do wonder why there are two Quicksilvers? One in the Avengers and one in X-Men.

    7. spacerguy on April 11, 2014 9:21 pm

Theres a lot of movie Superhero tag teaming lately which is really exciting. I digged Loki and Hulks smackdown in the Avengers.

    8. Maurice Mitchell on April 12, 2014 12:01 am

It was awesome Spacerguy!  Everybody fell out in the theater.

Great question! I'll answer it next week!

Two icons David. Lots have said it's the best.

#6 is so cool. I love that pic. I'd like the Han Solo collectible.

    12. Rusty Carl on April 12, 2014 1:20 pm

      Oh Luigi. Why?

And I agree with Agents of Shield being better than anything else this season. I hope they can maintain some real drama from here on out.

And Cap 2 was pretty awesome. I highly recommend it.

    13. Tony Laplume on April 14, 2014 12:31 am

I can't wait for the Battlestar Galactica movie. They've been trying to make this happen for a few years now. If memory serves correctly (and yes, I could also just as easily look it up; I mean, it would take less time than writing this parenthetical phrase!), it was Bryan Singer who was previously working on it.

      Also, Realistic Mario was hilarious!
