Reviews: ARROW, INTELLIGENCE, ALMOST HUMAN, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Arrow (2013) Robert Knepper, Caity Lotz, Emily Bett Rickards (Source)

    TV

    Arrow (01×14) “Time of Death”

Official Synopsis: “ROBERT KNEPPER AND ALEX KINGSTON GUEST STAR — Oliver (Stephen Amell) brings Sara (Caity Lotz) into the Arrow team. Watching Oliver and Diggle (David Ramsey) spar with Sara and talk old scars, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) starts to feel left out. The team is investigating a villain named William Tockman, a.k.a. The Clock King (guest star Robert Knepper), who is a brilliant thief armed with technology that can open any bank vault in Starling City. After The Clock King infiltrates the computer systems in the lair, Felicity feels pressure to prove her worth. When she gets a lead on Tockman’s whereabouts, she heads out without the team, putting her in peril. Meanwhile, Oliver throws Sara a welcome home party, but Laurel (Katie Cassidy) refuses to attend. After Lance (Paul Blackthrone) makes his case for a family dinner, Laurel acquiesces, but when Oliver shows up with Sara, she loses her temper on both of them. Nick Copus directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Beth Schwartz (#214).”

This was almost my favorite episode of the season till a series of hackneyed twists in the end almost ruined it. The worst is when Oliver finally meets Slade and pretends he doesn’t know him. Why?! But Knepper was brilliant enough to watch this one and the explanation of the relationship with Sin and the dead pilot make it a stellar one. Best Easter Egg: Batman & Robin’s “McGregor’s Synodrome.“

    Intelligence (01×03) “Mei Chen Returns”

Official Synopsis: “When Gabriel’s chip is hacked, he’s shocked to learn that Mei Chen is not only alive, but possesses an even more powerful chip than his own.”

I started watching this show, about a guy who has access to all the worlds information, since someone told me its good. It’s ok, but not compelling.

    Almost Human (01×12) “Beholder”

Official Synopsis: “When Det. Kennex and Dorian investigate the murder of a ‘chrome,’ there are no signs of trauma, other than a very small pinprick on the back of his neck. As the investigation unfolds, it’s revealed that the murder suspect is tapping into the DNA of his victims in pursuit of perfection.”

A touching story that explores the social standing of the genetically modified Chromes and the bizarre world of plastic surgery addiction. Kennex’ relationship with Stahl becomes more complex.

    Books

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (2008) “Somebody’s Got to Do It”

Official Synopsis: “Back-to-back Annihilation wars have weakened the boundaries of our universe. In the face of terror, who stands to defend a desperate universe? Star-Lord and his squad of butt-kickers the modern day Guardians of the Galaxy!”

I decided to start reading the comics to get ready for the movie. The book has a confusing flashback style that I just couldn’t get into. Maybe next issue.

What do you think of the reviews? Did you see anything in the list? If so, what did you think?

As with most of what he does, that Gilliam ending would have been brilliant. Which is not to say I didn't find the Snyder variant brilliant, too.

It's amazing.  The teaser sucked but the trailers are the best I've ever seen.  🙂

The movie sucks as well, just saw it.

    7. MegaSolipsist on July 6, 2014 11:06 am

      This movie was terrible.
At least the 1998 Godzilla was entertaining and fun in its stupidity. This one was just boring.

    8. MegaSolipsist on October 20, 2014 2:04 am

I thought it was a great teaser. It's just a shame that the movie itself was so unbelievably god-awful.
