IRONHEART: A New Look at Upcoming Disney+ Series Showcasing Riri Williams’ Suit

A trailer for Ironheart has not yet been released, but we have seen a few teasers in different Disney+ sneak peeks. Marvel Television has revealed four new promo stills for the show, which is scheduled to air in June. We’re sure to see a teaser in the next few weeks.

The pictures include Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, who we initially saw in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, flying while wearing a large armor reminiscent of Iron Man.

According to what we’ve seen, Riri will wear this early prototype suit for most of the series, but she is anticipated to don a few different costumes.

“There’s a full practical suit,” Marvel Television’s Brad Winderbaum said in an interview on the Phase Hero: A Film & TV Podcast, “It doesn’t obviously do all the crazy things that the suit does, but we used a lot of techniques that go all the way back to the first Iron Man film, where we actually had a practical suit on set.”

“First of all, just even as a visual reference for the CG artists having the actual suit there, even if it had to do like CG things and open and close and stuff,” he added, “it had all the perfect lighting reference, so the emulation is just spot on. It’s awesome. I mean I’m sure it’s going to be in the Marvel lobby in a few months.”

According to Winderbaum, Riri will be experiencing “a bit of a quarter-life crisis” and has a “Tony Stark-sized ego. “

“She fought in Wakanda, she fought Namor, she had this great adventure,” he continued. “But the day-to-day struggle is still real. She’s Riri Williams. She’s gonna do what she needs to do to get by for her and her family and everyone else. And it does lead her down some roads.”

Ironheart follows Riri Williams as she “returns to her hometown of Chicago. There, she discovers secrets that bring technology and magic into conflict, leading her on an exciting and dangerous adventure.”

Tony Stark, who acts as a mentor to the young hero in the comics, encourages Riri to get dressed up and battle crime. Ironheart is supposed to continue Iron Man’s legacy (at least in part), but it would be impossible to recreate that specific dynamic given Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame.

The original idea was to release this in late 2023, but they made it concurrently with Wakanda Forever, which was shot during post-production and wrapped around its November 2022 theatrical release. But after Marvel began reevaluating their releases in February and slowed them down a little, it was ultimately put on the shelf or in limbo. The writer strikes took place from July to November, and because they were interfering with the schedule, they removed it in September. They were claimed to have wrapped and completed filming in January 2024. However, reshoots are said to have occurred between February and April.

In addition to Thorne,  Lyric Ross, Regan Aliyah, Alden Ehrenreich, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam, and Anji White appear on the show. The Ironheart miniseries is scheduled to debut on June 24, 2025, on Disney+.
