Read on for the top ten comic books this week. Our weekly list of comic books we found valuable this week includes notes on the life of superheroes and reading recommendations.

Featuring the latest information on Batman, Superman, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Wonder Woman and every other hero under the sun.

There may be spoilers, but there will be great comics. Find out in this week’s new comic pull list.

    1. Superman #5

    • Publisher: DC Comics
    • Writer: Joshua Williamson
    • Artist: Jamal Campbell
    • Cover Artist: Jamal Campbell
    • Official Summary: CHAPTER FIVE: THE POWER OF LOVE-Silver Banshee is back–and more dangerous than ever! Given a massive power upgrade by Lex Luthor’s archenemies, Silver Banshee’s scream rocks Metropolis, and Superman must stop her from destroying his city while also saving her life. Be ready for the shock ending that stabs this series in its heart!
    • Review: The best issue of Williamson’s run is Superman #5, which features a combination of action, drama, and humor. The storyline finishes with Silver Banshee, in which Superman settles a dispute with  Siobhan and his buddy. The comic depicts Olsen and Banshee’s actual affection, and the creative team delivers love, laughter, and action. The conclusion will send shockwaves across Superman and DC Comics. Williamson and Campbell’s return to their self-titled series is still amusing, with Williamson keeping to his skills and avoiding the flaws that plagued his loftier series.

    2. I Am Iron Man #4

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Murewa Ayodele
    • Artist: Adedotun Akande
    • Cover Artist: Adedotun Akande

But when you’re IRON MAN, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., your demons are war-bringing demons that you must face covered in iron armor and a handful of secrets. Jump on with this penultimate episode set after the events of “Civil War”!
    • Review: I Am Iron Man #4 honors Tony Stark’s 2000 era by delving into every aspect of the character while avoiding vilification. The team expertly explores Tony’s darker sides, setting the plot after the events of the Civil War. The issue delves into Tony’s personal issues through his work as director of S.H.I.E.L.D., presenting previously hidden aspects of his journey. Murewa Ayodele and Dotun Akande portray Tony’s experience in a meaningful and really strange manner.

    3. Miles Morales: Spider-Man #7

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics

To have a chance at stopping him, Miles will need help from the most unexpected allies… Cletus got an upgrade—why can’t Miles?! LEGACY #289
    • Review: Miles Morales #7 is a popcorn action comic featuring big action and adrenaline-pumping illustrations. Carnage Reigns explores 90’s extremism, with Miles playing a key role in the story. The action-packed issue features unexpected heroes, including a new speedster character, an Avenger, and a last-page reveal to set up the big finale next week. The story is sure to be a hit with fans. The last page is a great cliff-hanger for the next issue.

    4. The Incredible Hulk #1

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Phillip Kennedy Johnson
    • Artist: Nic Klein
    • Cover Artist: Nic Klein
    • Official Summary: AGE OF MONSTERS – THE AGE OF MONSTERS HAS BEGUN! As an enraged Hulk tries to take control of Bruce Banner’s body permanently, a mysterious immortal turns every monster in the Marvel Universe against Banner in an attempt to free their creator, the primordial Mother of Horrors. With the help of an unlikely new friend, Banner and Hulk must try to stop the world from getting plunged into darkness in this terrifying new series! LEGACY #782
    • Review: The Incredible Hulk #1 takes the Hulk series in a new direction, with a new approach from Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein. With strong body horror, dark writing, and cool monster designs, the story features terror, tension, and action. Johnson integrates significant lore enhancements from Immortal Hulk and Donny Cate’s Hulk run, making it a thrilling and terrifying start for both new and long-time Hulk fans. But the plot relies heavily on the existential undertones of earlier runs, making it difficult to grab new readers.

    5. Arcade Kings #2

    • Official Summary: ROUND TWO: FIGHT! Joe’s search for his missing brother brings him to the ghost town of Rockview. Too bad it’s the home turf of Plum Khurana, who has a bone to pick with Joe’s entire family!
    • Review: Arcade Kings’ second issue lacks the brilliance of its opener, but still delivers spectacular visuals and thrilling anime-meets-arcade fights. The story beats repeat, but the visuals and action scenes remain spectacular. Arcade Kings #3 is promising in maintaining the momentum of the narrative. The comic taps into a genre that hasn’t been explored, making it a modern story for all.

    • Price: $7.99

    6. Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain #5

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Tini Howard
    • Artist: Vasco Georgiev
    • Cover Artist: Erica D’Urso
    • Official Summary: THOU ART MORE NEAR THY DEATH – EARTH’S MOST FURIOUS HEROES UNITE! And the villains alike! Morgan Le Fay has saddled up with her old lover, none other than Doctor Doom! And that can’t mean good things for the old country. But Betsy Braddock has a plan up her sleeve…and a Multiverse of allies even Morgan can’t magic-wand away. The fight for Britain, for Betsy, for Captains everywhere comes to a head!
    • Review: Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain #5 is a heartfelt finale for the Braddocks and their allies, focusing on Betsy’s tenure as Captain Britain. The final fight against Morgan Le Fay is a breezy yet significant battle, showcasing the character’s charm and Vasco Georgiev’s expert art. The issue is a fitting finale for the miniseries and a celebration of the character’s tenure.

    7. Wild’s End #1

    • Writer: Dan Abnett
    • Artist: I.N.J. Culbard
    • Cover Artist: I.N.J. Culbard
    • Official Summary: Journey to alien-occupied interwar England, courtesy of the award-winning creative team of Dan Abnett (Warhammer 40K, Immortal Red Sonja) & I.N.J. Culbard (Salamandre, Tales From The Umbrella Academy), with Nik Abnett providing additional material! Out at sea during the invasion, our intimate crew of unlucky voyagers returns to a world they once knew, their once-cozy seaside home now occupied by alien invaders. Combining a rich cast of anthropomorphized characters in the tradition of Blacksad and aliens unlike any you’ve ever seen in the spirit of War of the Worlds meets Wind in the Willows! Wild’s End is a world unlike any other… one you won’t want to leave.
    • Review: Wild’s End is notable for its skilled storytelling, which blends a pastoral backdrop with introspective undertones. Abnett and Culbard guide with perfect skill, a measured pace, and plenty of freedom for the characters to develop and shine. The pastoral atmosphere is soothing, but the plot can be gruesome when needed. Wild’s End #1 is an excellent starting point for new readers and a fun continuation of the previous series, with the plot and characterization functioning well for a first issue.

    8. Wonder Woman #800

    • Publisher: DC Comics
    • Writer: Becky Cloonan, Tom King, Michael Conrad
    • Artist: Cully Hamner, Daniel Sampere, Todd Nauck, Joëlle Jones, Nick Robles, Skylar Patridge
    • Cover Artist: Bilquis Everly
    • Official Summary: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE WARRIOR OF TRUTH? PART 2 / TRINITY – Diana’s visions become more vivid as she finds herself trapped in the dreams of those around her. As she struggles to escape, her life as Wonder Woman hangs in the balance. When the dust settles, will she still be the Amazons’ greatest champion? Find out in this extra-special celebration! FINAL ISSUE
    • Review: Wonder Woman #800 marks the end of a fantastic run, featuring stunning art from various creators and a heartfelt goodbye. The story follows Diana’s journey as she passes the torch to Tom King and Daniel Sampere, highlighting her iconic status as a cultural archetype. Despite the issue’s title, it isn’t the best love letter to Wonder Woman, serving instead as a tribute to her and denying her due recognition. But the issue is a beautifully crafted tribute to one of pop culture’s most beloved and enduring icons.
    • On Sale: June 20, 2023
    • Price: $5.99

You can pick up your copy of Wonder Woman #800 in all good comic book stores. It’s also available on Amazon

    9. Batman / Superman: World’s Finest #16

    • Publisher: DC Comics
    • Writer: Mark Waid
    • Artist: Dan Mora
    • Cover Artist: Dan Mora
    • Official Summary: ELEMENTARY, CHAPTER FOUR: OVERDRIVE – Batman and Superman versus machines! A.I. villains and heroes—Shaggy Man, G.I. Robot, Red Tornado, and Chemo among them—have launched a global cyberattack alongside Newmazo’s soldiers. Batman, Superman, Robin, and Metamorpho, the Element Man, are unprepared for the onslaught. With millions of lives on the line, the World’s Finest team must find a way to pull the plug before it’s too late!
    • Review: The latest issue of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #16 features the DC Universe’s most important characters, including Superman, Batman, and their allies. Waid’s characterization and Mora’s artwork contribute to these superheroes being portrayed as gods, mythological figures who will stand the test of time. The stunning unveiling behind “Newmazo” and his artificial intelligence “utopia” challenges Batman and Superman. The prequels in this story highlight classic themes of the DC Universe while also highlighting Batman’s leadership abilities and in-depth knowledge of the DC Comic Universe. The narrative is exciting and would make an excellent addition to any DC Comics library.
    • On Sale: June 20, 2023
    • Price: $3.99

You can pick up your copy of Batman / Superman: World’s Finest #16 in all good comic book stores. It’s also available on Amazon

    10. The Avengers #2

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Jed MacKay
    • Artist: Carlos Villa
    • Cover Artist: Stuart Immonen
    • Official Summary: The Avengers find themselves with a rare gift—foreknowledge of the dangers coming their way in the form of the deadly TRIBULATION EVENTS. But can this information be trusted? And can even Earth’s Mightiest Heroes triumph in the face of cascading disaster?
    • Review: Avengers #2 focuses on the plot and introduces new events in the Avengers franchise. The novel combines old-fashioned heroism with high-concept exposition, focused on Kang the Conqueror’s menace. The teamwork is excellent, with Captain Marvel leading the charge expertly. Instead of fighting villains like Kang the Conqueror, the Avengers save civilians, with Sam Wilson’s Captain America-style speech demonstrating his dependability.

So is that “I Am Iron Man” series doing a “Spider-Man Life Story” thing where it covers the character through each decade? Maybe they’ll do that with all their older characters? Though it might be hard with Captain America.

That Avengers thing sounds like Civil War II.
