    1. Clobberin’ Time #4

Clobberin' Time #4 cover artwork by Steve Skroce
Clobberin’ Time #4 cover artwork by Steve Skroce
    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Steve Skroce
    • Artist: Steve Skroce
    • Cover Artist: Steve Skroce
    • Official Summary: Ben Grimm has been banished to the bottomless pit of interstitial space between realities. There, he finds an unlikely ally in DOCTOR DOOM. DOOM has also been a victim of the new villain OGDU FRAIZE, the PSYCHOPOMP. Together, they plan their escape with the help of the banished Watcher, TUVAH TU.
    • Review: The Thing and Doctor Doom collaborate to set the stage for Clobberin’ Time’s conclusion, as they are forced to survive a multiversal emptiness together while preparing to face the Psychopomp. Skroce’s attention to little things (such as what one eats in a multiversal emptiness) adds a touch of levity to such vast undertakings. The issue lacks the jagged waves of baddies that made previous issues such a visceral thrill to read, but there is still enough action, and the revelation of Tuvah Tu’s connection to this narrative makes for a fantastic splash. Clobberin’ Time is ready to go out with a bang, with the ultimate fight planned.

    2. Superman: Lost #4

    • Publisher: DC Comics
    • Writer: Christopher Priest, Carlo Pagulayan
    • Artist: Carlo Pagulayan
    • Cover Artist: Carlo Pagulayan
    • Official Summary: BOOK FOUR: THE EDGE OF FOREVER – Can even Superman withstand being pushed past the point of emotional and psychological endurance? Marooned on a comet in uncharted space, the Man of Steel reflects on his humble Smallville origins as crushing emotional fatigue threatens to end his journey back—trauma which results in Lois’s struggle to reconnect with the virtual stranger in her own home.
    • Review: Superman: Lost is a Superman story that explores how far to go to keep civilization together when members of society want to exist in a different world than everyone else. The backdrop is rich in possibilities, and Superman is confronted with a series of ethical quandaries concerning the meaning of liberty and salvation, many of which are thinly veiled references to contemporary political battles. Superman’s blunder gives him a vulnerable moment, reminding readers that even an invincible entity may make a sacrifice. Throughout the issue, Pagulayan delivers fantastic images; not only do the characters look amazing but the action and environments are stunning and grab the imagination. This is an engrossing depiction of a foreigner in a strange land who is still looking for truth and justice.

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Emily Kim
    • Artist: Kei Zama
    • Cover Artist: David Nakayama
    • Official Summary: THE END OF GWEN? Spider-Gwen is imprisoned, and the only hope she has is relying on her very own clones! But is it too late? As Lyla gears up to act out her final revenge against Gwen. One that will affect the entire multiverse!
    • Review: Shadow Clones arrives just as Gwen Stacy’s popularity is at an all-time high, courtesy of the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Furthermore, giving Gwen her own “Clone Saga” is the chef’s kiss. Her new foe has reason to despise her, and the great reveal of how Doctor Lyla Bennett pulled off her plan is very astonishing.

    5. Static Team-Up: Anansi #1

Star Wars: Sana Starros #5 cover artwork by Ken Lashley
Star Wars: Sana Starros #5 cover artwork by Ken Lashley
    • Publisher: Milestone
    • Writer: Evan Narcisse
    • Artist: Charles Stewart III
    • Cover Artist: Nikolas Draper-Ivey
    • Official Summary: In a story set before the events of Static: Shadows of Dakota, the Static Shock animated series fan-favorite African superhero Anansi pays a visit to Dakota City, investigating a supernatural disturbance…but he’s going to need Static’s help to explore the occult side of the Milestone Universe!
    • Review: Static Team-Up: Anansi #1 presents the DC Comics version of Anansi, another iconic character from the Static Shock animated series. This is a fun, albeit lightweight, team-up issue written by Evan Narcisse and illustrated by Chris Stewart III that introduces Anansi into the DC universe with a new set of powers that are a little more abstract. The connection between Anansi and Static is quick, but the comic knows not to linger on the set-up and instead jumps right into the action. Stewart’s painting is more grounded than Nikolas Draper-Ivey’s, yet it works well with the plot. A solid superhero comic that will hopefully lead to the Milestone universe expanding.

    6. Batman Incorporated #9

Batman Incorporated #9 cover artwork by John Timms
    • Publisher: DC Comics
    • Writer: Ed Brisson
    • Artist: John Timms
    • Cover Artist: John Timms
    • Official Summary: JOKER INCORPORATED, PART 2 – Joker Incorporated has unleashed a game of terror across the globe. Thousands of lives are at stake as Joker, the Tap Dance Man, Corvus Cawl, the Ghoul, Alpaca, Dusty Bronco, and Dai Laffyn roll out their twisted plan of chaos and mayhem. In order to defeat Joker Inc., Batman Incorporated may have to cross a line the group promised never to cross.
    • Review: Batman Incorporated #9 is another strong issue in an improving series, with Ed Brisson and John Timms hitting their stride. It’s a suspenseful, fascinating issue, but with so many people, it frequently feels like we’re only getting a few pages with each of them. As the story progresses, it will be intriguing to see how close each member of Batman Inc. comes to crossing the line, because the Joker’s test and the repercussions for failing will be severe. This is a fantastic issue, but it needs that extra pinch of special next issue to completely impress.

    • Price: $3.99

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Clay McLeod Chapman, Taran Killam, Jed MacKay
    • Artist: Ty Templeton
    • Cover Artist: Leinil Francis Yu
    • Official Summary: GREATNESS AND CATASTROPHE / BEST LITTLE HORROR HOUSE / WET WORKS – Face front, Venomaniacs! EVEN MORE vicious and violent Venoms enter the fray! FIRST! But if he’s your favorite Venom ever, you better keep your fingers crossed—because not every Venom is making it out of this saga alive. PLUS! Another round of DAILY BUGLE funnies from comics legend Ty Templeton—this time with a symbiotic spin!
    • Review: Extreme Venomverse #3 is a mix of action, brilliant concepts, and an ongoing realization that the Venom characters of the multiverse must come together. It offers a multifaceted view into the multiverse and the symbiote’s place within it, from ancient times through the Wild West and beyond. As Carnage’s struggle against Venom heats up, this journey brings additional warriors to the cause, so fans will want to keep an eye on their multiverse favorites.

    8. Captain Marvel #50

    • Publisher: Marvel Comics
    • Writer: Kelly Thompson
    • Artist: David López, Javier Pina
    • Cover Artist: Carmen Carnero

It has been an impossible journey—one that’s taken Carol Danvers across time and space and pitted her against enemies new and old. Superstar writer Kelly Thompson has run Marvel’s premier heroine through the gauntlet, and now the boss of space burns brighter than ever. No one believed she would get this far. But that’s the power of Captain Marvel and her Carol Corps: They will never give up. Higher, further, faster—to the very end. Do not miss this capstone to a record-breaking run as Kelly Thompson puts her final fingerprints on Earth’s Mightiest Hero! FINAL ISSUE | LEGACY #184
    • Review: Captain Marvel #50 is a unique modern comic series that has lasted four years. Kelly Thompson has done an excellent job with this series, and Carol fans have had much to enjoy over the previous four years. It brings all of Thompson’s basic aspects together one last time, allowing each character to have a wonderfully thought-out and executed moment. Captain Marvel #50 is an appropriate celebration of who Carol has become and who she has influenced during Kelly Thompson’s remarkable run. Captain Marvel #50 is undoubtedly somber at moments, but it’s also fantastically humorous and hopeful, and it’s a lovely end to what will be remembered as a legendary run on the character.

    9. Green Lantern #2

Green Lantern #2 cover artwork by Xermanico
    • Publisher: DC Comics
    • Writer: Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Jeremy Adams
    • Artist: Xermanico, Montos
    • Cover Artist: Xermanico
    • Official Summary: NICE GUYS FINISH FIRST / RISE OF THE REVENANT QUEEN, PART TWO Hal Jordan’s homecoming is off to a rocky start! Carol Ferris is this close to firing him from the job he’s only just begged his way into, his power ring isn’t exactly working right, and off in the shadows, Sinestro, the architect of Hal’s current crisis, is waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Plus, the hard-hitting “John Stewart: War Journal” backup series from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Montos heats up as the Guardian John Stewart and his team, the Watchtower, fall under siege from a mysterious new threat!
    • Review: Green Lantern #2 is one of DC’s most recent must-reads. It is a character-driven novel that captivates the reader with its familiarity and focus on the complexities of Hal Jordan’s character and relationships. This issue showcases Jeremy Adams’ humorous, compassionate side of comic writing, which is easy to read while yet delivering a delightful plot and getaway for fans. Xermanico’s artwork is lovely, colorful, and cheerful, with wonderful details and an awesome visual tone, whereas Montos’ artwork is magnificently dark and tragic, with gloomy visual moments of John at home. This issue is an excellent starting point for any new Green Lantern fan interested in learning more about the character.
    • On Sale: June 13, 2023
    • Price: $4.99

    10. Star Trek #9

Star Trek #9 cover artwork by Ramon Rosanas
Star Trek #9 cover artwork by Ramon Rosanas
    • Publisher: IDW Publishing
    • Writer: Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing
    • Artist: Mike Feehan
    • Cover Artist: Ramon Rosanas
    • Official Summary: After a surprise encounter with the adrenaline-jacked Red Path during their infiltration of the hidden Cardassian facility, the Theseus’ crew must recover the Orb of Destruction – and make it out alive – if they’re to put a stop to Kahless’ bloody reign. But with Captain Sisko standing trial on Cardassia Prime with Commander Data by his side, can his crew succeed when they are divided?
    • Review: Star Trek #9 is the penultimate issue of the series’ second story arc, and it feels like an incredible Star Trek movie entering its third act. The two plots balance each other nicely, with neither the seriousness of Sisko’s side nor the levity and Crusher’s overtaking the other. Mike Feehan and Manuel Bracchi acquit themselves well, with one moment in particular of Sisko awaiting Cardassian judgment bringing the weight of the moment to bear on both character and reader. It’s a compelling read that should delight Star Trek fans.
