Apollo 18 Trailer, Hackers Love V for Vendetta, Spider-Man ‘Terrified’ of Success, Hottie Helen Mirren? [Links]

Here are today’s news about freaked out space men, comic book masks, sexy old ladies and scared spiders.

Anonymous Remembers The Fifth of September

In a strange turn of events, the new York Times is reporting that sales of the V for Vendetta mask have been sky-rocketing because of the loser hacker group “Anonymous.”

The hackers wear the mask when they protest outside of Scientology buildings. And they wore it during a short-lived protest this month in San Francisco of the Bay Area Rapid Transit’s decision to cut off cell service to thwart an earlier protest inside train stations.

“It’s a symbol of what Anonymous stands for, of fighting evil governments,” said one of the mask-wearers at that protest. The Anonymous member declined to share his name, noting that the entire concept of the mask was to remain anonymous. “You can get a mask and join the fight, too! But I heard the costume store is sold out until Friday,” he said.

No word if women are being kidnapped, having their heads shaved and tortured to convert them to the anarchist cause.

Apollo 18 Trailer May Or May Not Be great

In the new trailer for Apollo 18, the secret second mission to the moon shows the astronauts finding Russian equipment and what looks like an infection of some kind. Pretty freaky. This is either going to be the Blair Witch Project of 2011 or the over-hyped Blair Witch Project of 2011

Andrew Garfield is ‘Terrified’ of Spider-Man Success

Apparently, the actor Andrew Garfield is terrified that the success of The Amazing Spider-Man will change him.

“It terrifies me. I don’t want that, actually,” he told [Hero Press]. “I just saw that I was given an opportunity to play a part that I’ve been wanting to play since I was a 2-year-old. I don’t see it any other way. I don’t want the rest of it. The visibility thing — the being a more visible actor or just a more visible person in the world — was the one thing that deterred me. That was absolutely the one thing I questioned. Do I want to do this? I thought about it for a month, constantly. I knew there would be a change in my life to an extent. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I stay part of the world.”

Yeah, I heard that the guy who played Jar-Jar Binks said the same thing. Here’s a tip buddy. Wait till your movie is successful before talking about the challenges of success.

    Helen Mirren Is a Hottie?

According to a L.A. Fitness poll, Helen Mirren, who did the voice of “Deep Thought” in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie was voted as having the hottest body over Jennifer Lopez among others. Did I miss a memo? Is there a swimsuit picture of Mirren I haven’t seen?

Iron Man v. Green Lantern Fail

Great piece in io9 about why Iron Man flew while Green Lantern tanked at the box office. I can summarize it in two points: Too faithful to the comic and too much back story. It’s a good read if you have the time.

Interesting.  I've been hearing the complaint that there was too much back story in Green Lantern from a lot of directions.  It seems like most of the movie was the setup, followed by two rapid-fire villain fights.  That's another complaint: two big villains.

Apollo 18 looks like it could be really good.  Here's hoping it doesn't disappoint.

Protesting Scientologists?  Does anyone other than Scientologists actually support them?  What's the point?

Warriormuse, Apollo 18 comes out this week so we'll see! Green Lantern was good, but not great. I'll probably write a review when the DVD drops.
