Welcome to “Geek Bits” where we share the geekiest bits of the Internet for you.

Who owns the rights to the Star Trek comic books? What would Captain America look like as a girl? Where are Kirk and his crew in Star Trek Into Darkness? When will Professor X lose his hair? How boring is Jack the Giant Slayer?

    Superman

Homemade “Sweded” Man of Steel (2013) trailer. The special effects are pretty clever.

    Star Trek

Empire Magazine has some exclusive pictures and covers from Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and the following description of the film “With Earth under terrorist attack from Benedict Cumberbatch’s
ex-Starfleet employee John Harrison, Kirk is this time forced into a
rash decision that breaks a critical Starfleet command, puts his crew in
danger & costs him his captain’s chair.  Now out of uniform and
dressed down in space civvies of black leather jackets and boots, our
three heroes have separated from the Enterprise and headed off on a
mission to try and rectify his mistake…” (Via Bleeding Cool)

Leonard Nimoy hosted Star Trek’s movie premiere in Austin, Texas at the Alamo Draft Theater (Via Spacer Guy)

    Star Wars

Does Disney now own the rights to the Dark Horse Star Wars comics?! No… (Via TheForce.net)

    Jack the Giant Slayer

Synopsis: Jack the Giant Killer Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend—and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

Just when you couldn’t get the movie couldn’t get any more boring, the studio releases 10 boring pictures from the production. Not only does the star Nicholas Hoult (Jack) look bored, but so does everyone else. Even the soldiers! I have a bad feeling about this…

    Release Date: March 1, 2013

    Batman

Unsurprisingly, The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises were both on the list of the most pirated movies of 2012. (Via /Film)

    X-Men

James McAvoy talked Total Film about Professor X losing his hair…

“[Screenwriter] Simon Kinberg and I had a chat about it and we came up with a whole bunch of idea about how, why and where he might go bald. It’s got to be linked to the plot though. In the comics, he lost his hair as soon as his powers awakened, and we clearly didn’t follow the source material. It can’t just be that he looks in the mirror at the end of the film and goes ‘Oh [frick], I’m losing my hair’. Although that could be quite funny with all this s**t going on… he goes ‘Arge, I’m really stressed…’” (Via /Film)

    Pacific Rim

    Synopsis

Sci-Fi Action Adventure. When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim will be released in 2D, 3D and IMAX on July 12th 2013.

Rifftrax! I was going to say, if the new version of Jack the Giant Slayer looks bad, you should see the old one that Rifftrax attacked.

      I really miss MST3K…
And at least Disney doesn't own all of Star Wars.

    2. Maurice Mitchell on December 28, 2012 5:14 pm

Rifftrax voters apparently have very petty standards as to "worst." So good on them.

      Allison Brie for president!

    3. Maurice Mitchell on December 28, 2012 7:30 pm

Seems kind of sexist girl Captain America has to bare her midriff. Also it would seem to get kind of cold, not to mention it'd be pretty easy for bad guys to just shoot her in the gut or something.

    4. Maurice Mitchell on December 28, 2012 8:51 pm

I miss MST3K to Alex. Rifftrax is close, but there are a lot of good memories there. I'll have to look for that alternate Jack movie. It sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it. Star Wars for the people!

    5. Maurice Mitchell on December 28, 2012 8:52 pm

Tony, to be honest, my list of worst would pretty much match up. I second your endorsement. Brie for 2017!

    6. Maurice Mitchell on December 28, 2012 8:54 pm

Yeah, Pat it's not the smartest choice of costume. It's like when Padme was the only one to come out of her battle with her clothes torn. Of course, Portman asked them to sexy up her costume, but it still looks strange…strangely attractive that is.

    7. Maurice Mitchell on December 29, 2012 5:16 pm

Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny? Never even heard of it. Surprised Santa Claus Conquers the Martians wasn't on the list since that was one of the films Mystery Science Theater made fun of.
