5 Famous Co-ed Locker Rooms in Scifi Movies and TV

Nothing says gender equality like men and women showering together and getting dressed together, completely naked, and not caring. There are co-ed locker rooms in the real world today, but it does stir up some controversy. Co-ed locker rooms are rare in mainstream movies and TV shows, but they pop up often in sci-fi. In sci-fi films, these scenes are frequently used in a military or law enforcement context to show how open and progressive the future is. Let’s talk about five of them. (Note: Due to the family-friendly nature of this blog, sorry, we won’t be featuring any of the video.)

    5. Robot Jox (1990)

Movie still of Anne-Marie Johnson as Athena locker room in Robot Jox (1990)
Robot Jox (1990): Athena (Anne-Marie Johnson)

In this movie, giant robot fighters are surrogates for war in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world. The upside is that all the “robot jox” shower together. There is no word on whether the robots all oiled up together.

    4. Judge Dredd (1995)

Movie still of Diane Lane as Judge Hershey in the locker room in Judge Dredd (1995)
Judge Dredd (1995): Judge Hershey (Diane Lane)

In another post-apocalyptic world, police officers serve as judge and jury to a lawless population. In a city where murders are common and people get their cars blown up for improper parking, the judges bond by getting undressed together.

    3. Battlestar Galactica (2005)

Television still of Jamie Bamber as Cpt. Lee 'Apollo' Adama and Katee Sackhoff as Lt. Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace locker room in the Battlestar Galactica
Battlestar Galactica (2005): Cpt. Lee ‘Apollo’ Adama (Jamie Bamber), Lt. Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace (Katee Sackhoff)

When the robot Cylons almost annihilate the human race, the survivors must travel in a cramped caravan of starships. The hotshot Viper pilots are mixed gender, and dress and shower together in their quarters. In this world, you’re judged by what you do, not how you look.

    2. Robocop

Movie still of Peter Weller as Alex Murphy / Robocop locker room in Robocop (1987)
Robocop (1987): Alex Murphy / Robocop (Peter Weller)

When a cop is killed, he’s reanimated as a cyborg police officer. The cops find themselves threatened by the presence of this new figure of justice. But they don’t mind seeing each other naked. Here, the locker room shows camaraderie among the thin blue line.

    1. Starship Troopers (1997)

Movie still of Dina Meyer as Dizzy Flores and Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico shower scene in Starship Troopers (1997)
Starship Troopers (1997): Dizzy Flores (Dina Meyer), Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien)

Humanity is locked in a war with a ruthless insect race in this sci-fi war movie. One of the most famous scenes on this list is when the troopers cheerfully wander around a locker room and shower together, completely naked. Some trivia: Apparently, the real world intruded on this scene, because the actors and actresses refused to shoot the scene
until the director and cameraman also disrobed.

Any other co-ed locker rooms you can name? Would you use one of them?

Considering I just saw the Rifftrax live showing of Starship Troopers the other night, that was the first one that came to my mind! And yes, it was hysterical!

Haha… the locker room has clearly played an important role in science-fiction…strangely enough.

I seem to recall everyone hanging out in Aliens but that was not a locker room. What about Top Gun? Guys in that film spent a lot of time hanging out together in various stages of undress and while there were all the same sex there was a lot of sexual ambiguity going on.

The size – The facility for which you are getting the locker for should help you determine the suitable unit size. The budget you have will also play a role in the decision you make as far as the size goes.where can i get a key made near me
