Who got attacked by an air conditioner? Why is it so bright on the set of X-Men Days of Future Past? Why does Superman fly like that? How can you learn about the tributes in Hunger Games 2?

Find out in this week’s 10 geekiest bits of the Internet.

    10. No Injuries On ‘Transformers 4′ Set After Michael Bay Ducks Air Conditioner Attack (via Deadline)

“Contrary to several erroneous news reports made today, Bay did not get
hurt in a fight on set. The production company did have a bizarre
encounter with a man (allegedly under the influence of a narcotic
substance) who was wielding an air conditioning unit as a weapon. The
man, who had earlier accosted several other crew members, rushed onto
the set in Quarry Bay and swung the air conditioning unit directly at
Bay’s head. The director ducked and wrested the air conditioner from his
attacker, preventing what could have been a serious accident. The
company’s security team quickly stepped in and subdued the assault. The
police, who also scuffled with the assailant and two of his companions,
ultimately arrested the three men. No one on the cast or crew was
injured and the production immediately resumed filming without further
    incident.”

    7. ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’: The Difficulty of Filming Quicksilver Super-Speed Scenes (via Screen Rant)

Filming scenes with the hyperfast mutant Quicksilver. Speaking in an interview with i09, Peters said that this was the toughest part of filming:

“It was incredibly bright. A lot of the crew and Bryan,
himself, got to wear sunglasses. And the actors had to keep their eyes
open for a long, long time, with that bright light just blaring at you.
It’s like the sun. It’s brighter than the sun. It’s right there in your
eyes. But the end result is so worth it. You just power through it.

“It does kind of hurt. I don’t know how safe that is? Keeping your
eyes open for more than 20 seconds in that light. But yeah it does hurt.
It’s really difficult to keep your eyes open… It’s super, super, super,
super slomo. You can see raindrops frozen in the air. Stuff like that.
It’s amazing how that camera works.”

    5. See 1st official pics from Doctor Who’s 50th-anniversary episode (via Blastr)

Not really spoilery, but you never know.

    4. Marvel Developing Package of New TV Series(via /Film)

    Deadline:
“Marvel is quietly putting together a package of four drama series and a
miniseries — a total of some 60 episodes — that would be taken out to
the VOD and cable space, with Netflix, Amazon and WGN America rumored as
    potential candidates.”

    3. Joseph Gordon-Levitt Shoots Down ‘Ant-Man’ Rumor: “Nothing But Lies” (via /Film)

Too bad. “There are always rumors. I talk a lot about my future projects, so if
you haven’t heard me talk about it, it means it’s nothing but a rumor,”
he said. “People like to write about [rumors].” Gordon-Levitt also added
that reports of his having passed auditions or screen tests for the
    role were “nothing but lies.”

    2. Steven Moffat Says Doctor Can Only Have Twelve Regenerations But “There’s Something You’ve All Missed”(via Bleeding Cool)

This might be what Steven Moffat is referring to in
his latest comments on The Doctor’s ever-controversial regeneration
count. He was speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, and has
been quoted by the events sponsors, The Radio Times. Here’s their version of what he said:

He can only regenerate 12 times… I think you should go
back to your DVDs and count correctly this time. There’s something
    you’ve all missed.

    Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (01×04) “Eye Spy” – Recommended

    Synopsis: “Agent Coulson and the
S.H.I.E.L.D. team try to track down a mysterious woman who has
single-handedly committed numerous high-stakes heists. But when the
woman’s identity is revealed, a troubling secret stands to ruin
Coulson, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

A great episode, but not my favorite of the season. The S.H.I.E.L.D. producer explained why the show is off to a (kinda) slow start
and I think this episode is unique because it has non-stop action. It’s
more of a spy show than a superhero show, which works for me.

The Tomorrow People (01×02) “In Too Deep” – Not Recommended

Synopsis: “BREAKING OUT – When Ultra
tries to probe Stephen’s (Robbie Amell) brain, he looks to his fellow
Tomorrow People for help, but is rebuffed by an angry John (Luke
Mitchell), leaving Cara (Peyton List) to go behind John’s back to help
Stephen. Meanwhile, Ultra tracks down the identity of a new break-out,
who has been using his powers to commit crimes. Stephen tracks down the
new break-out, but is shocked when an Ultra swat team is called in. At
a loss for what to do, Stephen calls on John, Cara and Russell (Aaron
Yoo) for help, leaving them with a risk of also getting caught. Upon
learning of Ultra’s evil motives, John tries to convince Stephen to spy
on Ultra to help save other potential Tomorrow People, while still
pursuing the answers he seeks about this father. Mark Pellegrino and
    Madeleine Mantock also star.”

I’m still on the fence about this show. The special effects are cool
and I like that they have Stephen working for the evil Ultra as a double-agent, but it just isn’t
clicking for me. I’ll watch the next episode, but that might be it.

Arrow (02×01) “City of Heroes” – Recommended

    Synopsis: “FROM

left Starling City after The Undertaking.  Convinced to return home,

    “

I’m an episode behind, so I’ll review two next week. This is a good
episode and season two of Arrow looks better than ever. I love the
transformation of Oliver Queen from a “serial killer” to a hero and
Summer Glau is as excellent in the board room as she is fighting
    zombies.

    Movies

    The Wolverine (2013) – Recommended

    Summary: “Based on the celebrated
comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh
Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to
modern-day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his
ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever
changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and
emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also
his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful
than we have ever seen him before.”

I finally snuck out to see this one and it didn’t disappoint. I loved
the views of Japan and Japanese culture and the action is insane. From
the bullet train fight to the final battle with Silver Samurai it was
all-to-wall insanity. The villains weren’t strong though. Silver
Samurai and Viper were just not formidable villains, so they filled the
movie up with faceless ninjas. The end-credits scene setting up X-Men: Days of Future Past was cool though.

      More Marvel series? Yes, please!
That is not the most attractive Leia I've ever seen…
Never heard of an AC unit being used as a weapon before, so that's definitely a first.
And as long as no one on the X-Men set went blind, that's good.

    2. Pat Dilloway on October 18, 2013 3:11 pm

I liked the SHIELD episode this week but I wish they'd let the Ming Na character smile or something more often. It's like all she does is scowl and occasionally fight someone. Lighten up!

I think it's almost impossible to find a formidable Wolverine villain. It's like Superman where they make him so impossible to hurt that there's really no one who can match up well against him.

    3. Yolanda Renee on October 18, 2013 3:54 pm

Couldn't get into the Shield, or the Tomorrow folks, but I'm odd like that. Maybe later when nothing else is on, and I'm bored! Wolverine, not that's a different story! LOL

    4. MPax on October 18, 2013 3:58 pm

I'm on the fence about the Tomorrow People, too. A lot of it is pretty 'done'. Seems they're about done whining, so maybe it'll get better. I'm not sure about Shield either. Or Sleepy Hollow. I'm hoping they deliver on Dracula. I've been waiting months for that.

    5. TS Hendrik on October 18, 2013 5:20 pm

I loved that Superman comic. That's hilarious, and they're drawn so cute.

There are a couple things Moffat could be referring to with the regeneration, but I'm wondering if he's counting David Tennant's regeneration where he stayed himself and poured the rest of the energy into his spare hand. In which case, this would be his last regeneration. Either way there are loop holes. The Time Lords in the older episodes could grant a whole new set of regenerations. so there might be a way to it through that.

    6. DAVID WALSTON on October 18, 2013 5:38 pm

I had read about the Hand Regeneration cheat might count.
I hadn't thought of that before.

      *SPOILER THEORY ON WINTER SOLDIER*

After watching S.H.I.E.L.D. this week, it made me think if this is how and why The Winter Soldier would attack Captain America?

    8. TS Hendrik on October 18, 2013 7:14 pm

My brother actually raised a good point too. River poured her regeneration energy into him as well. That could be an out they use for him having extra lives.

Being part Japanese, I really enjoyed the history and customs of the wolverine movie. Love your cool sci-fi facts.

    11. Maurice Mitchell on October 19, 2013 2:36 am

I enjoyed that too Clarissa.  It was like Japan was another character in the film. This was especially true with the chopsticks scene.  What was your favorite scene?

    12. Maurice Mitchell on October 19, 2013 2:37 am

I never thought of that one Tim! I'll have to research this topic.

    13. Maurice Mitchell on October 19, 2013 2:38 am

    14. Maurice Mitchell on October 19, 2013 2:39 am

Another good one. It was assumed the regeneration was canceled but maybe not.

    15. Clarissa Draper on October 19, 2013 2:42 am

My mother always taught me that it was bad to put my chopsticks in my rice like that. I still take my husband's chopsticks out of his rice when he does that.

    16. DAVID WALSTON on October 19, 2013 4:43 am

Mabey Bucky doesn't want to hurt Captain, but is made to in a similar fashion as the show showed with Agent Coulson and the renegade agent? I just kept thinking with the ocular implants she would be equivalent to what the Winter Soldier is with his cybernetics. If the show is an extension of the cinematic universe it would not be a stretch.

    17. Maurice Mitchell on October 19, 2013 4:56 am

      I like it?

    18. Maurice Mitchell on October 19, 2013 4:57 am

That's so interesting Clarissa.  It felt like the most authentic line in the movie. Thanks

    19. Sven Harvey on March 23, 2014 6:02 pm

Continue on in the original timeline using Countdown (the 2009 film comic prequel) as a TV movie jumping off point (with Captain Data on the Enterprise, Jean-Luc Picard as Ambassador to Vulcan and Geordi LaForge having been the designer of the Jellyfish.) Then follow some crew members involved in the incident to their new ship which replaces a badly damaged Enterprise-E. So off we go again on the Enterprise-F with Star Trek Online uniforms, with the Romulans becoming part of the Federation and continuing tensions with the races from the Delta and Gamma quadrants.

    20. Tyler Youngblood on March 23, 2014 9:31 pm

personally I would put it as a new ship and crew set 5 or 10 years after deep space 9 and voyager. I would say hell no to making a tv series in the movie universe but it would be interesting to see an episode where the new crew goes into the movie universe and see the version of themselves in that universe.

    21. Alexander Robins on March 23, 2014 10:37 pm

It needs to be a new ship and crew, that's the whole point of Star Trek, it looks to the future, creating a new story to explore new niches of this fictional universe. They need to stay completely away from the new movies, that would just be but and throw away the aforementioned 18 years of continuity that star trek created.

    22. Maurice Mitchell on March 25, 2014 3:19 pm

Great idea! It could be a parallel universe and still allow for a crossover.

    23. Maurice Mitchell on March 25, 2014 3:22 pm

That is awesome Sven. I haven't read a Star Trek comic in ages, but that one looks great!

    24. Duncan Webb on January 13, 2015 8:11 am

For my first series, I would choose the great Jeffrey Combs as the first nonhuman Captain (preferably Andorian) of the Enterprise (with a mostly nonhuman crew), and set the ship to explore the rest of the Milky Way Galaxy. My second series would take place in the Andromeda Galaxy, with Stargate Atlantis` Joe Flanigan as the Captain. The third series that I would create would star none other than Angela Bassett as the Captain of a ship exploring the Triangulum Galaxy. These three series would be set in the 27th Century, in the Universes created by Mr Roddenberry and continued by Mr Berman, and respecting established canon. I`d actually want four new Star Trek series; the fourth would be a collection of miniseries depicting the greatest moments in Star Trek history that were mentioned onscreen but never shown, and Axanar would be the first one. I had previously advocated reviving ENT as well as shows centering on the Enterprises B and C, but I think that they would do better being folded into my fourth series rather than as stand-alone shows. Star Trek needs to move into the future and get back to it`s main mission of exploration and meeting new lifeforms.

Anthology series of Star Fleet History: Each episode begins at Star Fleet Academy History lecture hall. The lecture can be from any time leading up to the formation of Star Fleet to any event, person, location or technology significant to Star Fleet. Lecture can take place from any era about any era. ie: A mature Adm. Janeway explaining the Picard Maneuver, Ambassador Spock discussing the chain of captains commanding the all Enterprise ships or a Romulan professor regaling how Romulus has accepted Star Fleet into it's fold. They are allies and he explains how and when it happened. Costumes, aliens, technology and ships can be from any era – past to future(of the 26th century?)

    26. alex on March 21, 2015 1:35 pm

Same ship however use the the new captain kirk, Spock , mccoy cause they fit the star trek jonra to a tee they are the first remakes of the originals series that i really like(not like remake of dukes of hazard, beverly hill billies etc…. the new cast is perfect)
