Superhero Name Generator by Fantastic Floor

Who complained about all the Star Wars Episode VII leaked pics? What’s the best bad superhero movie ever? Who’s playing “Thanos the Mad Titan” in Avengers 2?

Last week we did the supervillain names, so this week we’ll do superheroes. My name is the Marvelous Levitating Man!

I’d love to hear what you think of the Internet’s greatest moments in this week’s “Geek Bits.”

    10. 100 Essential Superhero Movies – You Decide! Swamp Thing (via Flights, Tights and Movie Nights)

Does the Swamp Thing (1982) movie deserve to be in the list of 100 essential superhero movies? Go vote! If you haven’t seen it, buy the new Swamp Thing BluRay
today. It’s awesome. And bad. Awesomely bad.

VFX Delays Push Wachowskis’ ‘Jupiter Ascending’ To February (via Deadline)

Warner Bros and Village Roadshow were set to open the Wachowskis’ sci-fier Jupiter Ascending on July 18 after moving it up by a week in the summer 2014 tentpole calendar back in December. Now the actioner starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis won’t fly into theaters until February 6, 2015.

I hear the Wachowskis needed more time to complete visual effects work on their CG-heavy space epic, which spans intergalactic worlds and follows the story of a woman (Kunis) who links up with a space warrior (Tatum) and learns she’s the heir to Earth.

    1. Josh Brolin Is Thanos In Guardians Of The Galaxy And The Avengers Sequels (via  Bleeding Cool)

According to slightly distinct but obviously overlapping reports at Latino Review and The Wrap, Josh Brolin will be providing the voice for Thanos in the Marvel movieverse and we can expect to see him in Guardians of the Galaxy, Age of Ultron and whatever the third Avengers movie is. (Something with the word Infinity in it, I’m sure.)

The Wrap say that his role in Guardians is smaller than his role in Ultron, which is interesting as his role in Guardians is certainly much, much bigger than the cameo he made at the end of The Avengers. I say that definitively and confidently based on observations made on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy.

It’s a very strong piece of casting, and I hope Brolin does his best with it. Of course, he’s been in an adaptation of a Marvel comic before and… oh… I even regret bringing it up. Anyway. Onwards and upwards.

    The 100 (2014) – (01×01 – 01×11) – Recommended

Official Synopsis:  Ninety-seven years ago, nuclear Armageddon decimated planet Earth,
destroying civilization. The only survivors were the 400 inhabitants of
12 international space stations that were in orbit at the time. Three
generations have been born in space, the survivors now number 4,000, and
resources are running out on their dying “Ark” – the 12 stations now
linked together and repurposed to keep the survivors alive. Draconian
measures including capital punishment and population control are the
order of the day, as the leaders of the Ark take ruthless steps to
ensure their future, including secretly exiling a group of 100 juvenile
prisoners to the Earth’s surface to test whether it’s habitable. For
the first time in nearly a century, humans have returned to planet
    Earth.

Among the 100 exiles are Clarke, the bright teenage daughter of
the Ark’s chief medical officer; Wells, son of the Ark’s Chancellor; the
daredevil Finn; and the brother/sister duo Bellamy and Octavia, whose
illegal sibling status has always led them to flaunt the rules.
Technologically blind to what’s happening on the planet below them, the
Ark’s leaders – Clarke’s widowed mother, Abby; the Chancellor, Jaha; and
his shadowy second in command, Kane – are faced with difficult
decisions about life, death and the continued existence of the human
    race.

For the 100 young people on Earth, however, the alien planet
they’ve never known is a mysterious realm that can be magical one moment
and lethal the next. With the survival of the human race entirely in
their hands, THE 100 must find a way to transcend their differences,
unite and forge a new path on a wildly changed Earth that’s primitive,
intense and teeming with the unknown.

The trouble with reviewing this show is I started watching late and only caught up this week. It’s impossible to review all 12 episodes in a single post so I’m going to just say that this is the best show on TV right now.

The cast is exceptional and so much has changed since the beginning it feels like it’s moving at a breakneck speed. All the characters are brilliant, but the highlights are Eliza Taylor as Clarke Griffin (the star and brilliant hero of the show that gives Katniss a run for her money), Paige Turco as Councilwoman Dr. Abigail Griffin (Clarke’s Mom, doctor and moral compass) and Eli Goree as Wells Jaha. Jaha is a strong black character that I can really empathize with. He’s the leader of a doomed ship and has to make incredibly tough decisions to save the human race.

It’s hard for me to suggest it because you can’t even catch up on all episodes on Hulu (it stops at episode 8). All I’ll say is that if you’re watching it, then you love it. If you’re not, I’d either jump in now or wait till the season’s over and catch up on Netflix or DVD.

What do you think of this week’s links? Is there anything I missed?

Poisonous MInd-Reading Dragon! Um, OK then. They can say it's about effects but pushing a movie from summer to the dreadful winter season means the movie is probably crap, like GI JOE 2. It's hard to believe anyone would give the Wachowskis another shot after the debacle that was "Speed Racer" but I guess M Night Shaymalan still gets work too.

From those leaked pics it appears we're going back to Tatooine. Again. Like there aren't millions of freaking planets in the galaxy, we always have to go back to the same boring desert one. Someone should remind them the best Star Wars movie did not involve Tatooine at all. I'm just saying.

    2. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 6, 2014 1:27 pm

MsMariah is going to want those Wonder Woman scissors.
Does Swamp Thing deserve to be on the list? Are there a hundred super hero movies?
And I really want that t-shirt with Mal and Hans!

    3. Pat Dilloway on June 6, 2014 1:37 pm

BTW, what Marvel movie was Josh Brolin in? I know he was in that crummy Jonah Hex movie, but that's a DC property.

    4. MsMariah on June 6, 2014 3:23 pm

Oh thanks for the link by the way!!!

    5. TS Hendrik on June 6, 2014 5:14 pm

Terrifying Invisible Spirit. That's me alright.

Pretty psyched for Brolin as Thanos. If he plays it straight he's got a great voice for the role.

Those Wonder Woman scissors… Creepy. haha

Thanks for sharing my post. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

    6. TS Hendrik on June 6, 2014 5:15 pm

      That's so perverse it's awesome.

    7. Tony Laplume on June 6, 2014 7:10 pm

I still excited for Jupiter Ascending.

    8. Maurice Mitchell on June 6, 2014 9:16 pm

      LOL classic David

    9. John Garrett on June 7, 2014 3:04 am

Ahh those Wonder Woman scissors. Those dead, soulless eyes…can't look away.

Big Trouble in Little China was possibly the best movie ever made, the comic is a must buy for me. Gotta check back in with my boy Jack Burton!

    10. Maurice Mitchell on June 7, 2014 5:18 am

Gotta love those scissors Ms. Mariah! Yeah there's something fishy about those set pics…

    11. Maurice Mitchell on June 7, 2014 5:20 am

I think it deserves a place Alex. Maybe not number 1, but maybe 82. You'd look great in that shirt I'm sure. Who wouldn't?

    12. Maurice Mitchell on June 7, 2014 5:21 am

Yeah we both missed out John! Maybe they'll do a reprinting. It certainly inspired Rayden.

    13. Maurice Mitchell on June 7, 2014 5:22 am

I dunno Tony as much as I love the Matrix they're track record has been spotty. But maybe this shows they're doing something cutting edge!

    14. Maurice Mitchell on June 7, 2014 5:23 am

No YOU are the gentleman and a scholar. Brolin does have a great voice. Unlike Spader. I'm having a hard time envisioning him as Ultron.

    15. Maurice Mitchell on June 7, 2014 5:31 am

I can't think of any great movies that had the release date pushed forward. A few okay ones like Joe 2, but no great ones.

Tatooine is overused Pat. Its okay if they stop by to check on the moisture farms, but I'm hoping it's not a big part of the film. Maybe they cleaned Mos Eisly like New York.

    16. Tony Laplume on June 7, 2014 7:03 pm

I've enjoyed all of the things they've worked on (Speed Racer, V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas, Matrix sequels). Not to the same level as that first Matrix experience, but I find them to be very engaged in the creative process.

    17. Maurice Mitchell on June 7, 2014 7:13 pm

Everything they've ever done has been gorgeous and they've done well, but it's just not my style of movie. Except Matrix which is favorite.

    18. MedeiaSharif on June 9, 2014 12:51 pm

      I'm Marvelous Levitating Spirit.

      I love the scissors.

    19. jeremy [retro] on June 9, 2014 9:07 pm

okay, i don't have much to say… other than i must have those wonder woman scissors… for my wife. 🙂
