Star Trek: Picard: 7 Biggest Easter Eggs from Mind-Blowing Teaser and Poster

Find out everything you never noticed in the Picard teaser. The first teaser for the CBS All Access series Picard dropped this week.

    The Picard Vineyards

Most of the trailer shows Picard walking through a vineyard. This is his family wine vineyards in La Barre, France named “Chateau Picard”. In The Next Generation, it was established that Picard was French thanks to his namesake. In the season four episode “Family”, Picard visits his estranged brother at the vineyard.

In the series finale two-parter “All Good Things” it established that one of his possible futures was tending to the family business. Apparently Picard decided to work the family business. The wine is dated ’86 which is most likely 2386 which would be a year after the events in Star Trek: Nemesis. More on that later.

    Robot Workers

In the movie Star Trek: Generations Picard learned that his brother, sister-in-law, and nephew all died in a fire. The question that was never answered is what happened to the vineyard while he was Star Trekking? In the trailer we see a robot flying overhead spraying something on the crops.

Is the whole thing automated? Does Picard even need to be there or is it just nostalgia?

On a side note, the sky looks disgusting with pollution.

    The “Rescue Armada”

A voiceover says Picard led the greatest “rescue armada” in history. This could refer to something we’ve seen before or something totally new.

In the movie Star Trek: First Contact Picard briefly took command of the large fleet of ships going to defeat the Borg. The other event it could be referring to Spock’s unsuccessful trip to save the Romulan’s from a supernova in Star Trek (2008) circa 2387.

The “rescue armada” could have been the fleet of ships sent to help save the Romulans people after the Supernova struck. In the comic, Star Trek: Countdown, Picard is the Federation ambassador to Vulcan, but boards the Enterprise-E to help the Romulans. He’s there to watch Spock disappear through the wormhole. What else did he see?

    “The Unimaginable”

The woman says “the unimaginable” happened that led him to leave Starfleet and possibly his faith. Faith in what? Faith in who?

The CBS Picard series is set 20 years after he appeared in Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) in the fictional year 2402. According to Alex Kurtzman Picard was deeply affected by the end of the Romulan Empire after the events seen in J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie which happened in 2379. “Picard’s life was radically altered by the dissolution of the Romulan Empire,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

    Admiral Picard

In Star Trek: Generations Kirk told him not to get promoted. “Don’t let the transfer you, don’t let them promote you,” Kirk said. “Don’t let them do anything that gets you off the bridge of that ship!” But, apparently, Picard didn’t listen.

    Does he regret that decision?

    Four Lights

The whole teaser has been narrated by a woman with a dispassionate, almost accusatory tone. It sounds like he’s in some kind of hearing. Behind Picard are a set of bright lights. Almost like an interrogation.

This is a reference to the sixth season two-part episode “Chain of Command”. In that episode, Picard is tortured and interrogated by Cardassians. To break his spirit they show four lights and demand that he says there are five. When he tells the truth they brutally inflict pain on him. When he’s finally freed he turns to his captures and defiantly shouts, “There are four lights!”

The lights may be symbolic of the intense scrutiny he’s under.

    A Travel to the Past

Finally, we get the first poster which apparently shows the Picard vineyard cut into the shape of a Star Trek logo. But interestingly it’s a very specific design. It uses an older Starfleet insignia.

In the time of the original series, late-2240s-2250s the command division insignia had a delta with a falling star symbol.

During the time of the first Star Trek movie, Star Trek: The Motion Picture (the early 2270s) the insignia took on a simpler design.

By the time of Star Trek: The Next Generation (the 2340s to 2370s), the logo had been changed to drop the star.

So why bring back the star? Does it show some connection to the far past?

Besides Stewart, the series will star Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, and Harry Treadaway. No release date has been announced. Picard will air exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States and will be distributed concurrently internationally by CBS Studios International on Amazon Prime Video and in Canada on Bell Media’s cable networks, Space and Z, and OTT service Crave.
