Fans everywhere were relieved to hear that Chris Evans has agreed to ruin not only The First Avenger: Captain America, but the entire Marvel franchise as well. The Internet was abuzz over fears that the comic company would give the role of Steve Rogers to an actor that would take the role seriously. Marvel was looking at a short list of actors to lead not only Cap film, but the entire Avengers franchise as well. Director Joe Johnston searched long and hard for an actor that would convincingly highlight the humor and slapstick comedy that is the hallmark of the "Star Spangled Avenger." Thankfully, Evans is well known for drama-killing roles in Cellular, The Nanny Diaries and Sex Academy. Chris showed real leadership qualities as wisecracking Johnny Storm in the Oscar-nominated Fantastic Four movies. Recently, comic book lovers everywhere were shocked by the news that actor John Krasinski, who won a dramatic award for the critically acclaimed Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, might be cast and bring credibility to the character. It's expected that in the next few days they'll be announcing that Nazi war villain "Red Skull" will be played by Carrot Top.

Let us know in the comments what can we expect from Captain America played by Chris Evans.

I know that he doesn't look like a promising actor for this franchise, but I think we need to wait and see for this one. Remember when The Dark Knight camp announced the young actor to be following in Jack Nicholson's footsteps and becoming the Joker, was going to be Aussie Heath Ledger?!? People went bananas over it.

What do we think of him now after his portrayal one of the best villains EVER in a comic book movie?

Label this under "Wait-And-See"

@truthoncinema You got a real point there. Heath Ledger sounded like the worst possible choice and he got nominated for an Oscar. Still, at least he had some body of work to reference. Duly filed however. ;)

Well, in truthoncinema's defense, Heath Ledger had a resume with "A Knight's Tale" on it. But I have to say that kind of upset happens once in a generation. For every Heath Ledger, there's that kid from "3rd Rock From the Sun." Not hopeful.

:)) although I like the irony in your post, I must admit I love Chris Evans and I believe in him. He did show he possesses drama skills in excellent movie called LONDON.

Everyone seems to think he was great in London. Guess I'll have to watch it.

It is hilarious how attitudes like this change just after a year.

Agreed. That's why we don't blog too much about movies in production. You end up looking kinda stupid. See our post on Whiplash in Iron Man 2 for more details...

For the record, I love Chris Evans and you should stop picking on him. He's amazing.
