By Grabthar’s Hammer a Galaxy Quest series is coming!
Since its 1999 premiere, Galaxy Quest has enthralled viewers and is a beloved movie. As the cast of a science fiction show struggles to remain relevant in a changing society, the Star Trek parody follows them until they receive contact from actual extraterrestrials and embark on an incredible journey. Over the past ten years, a series has been in various phases of development.
In 2015, Paramount announced that a Galaxy Quest show was in development. Two years ago, Paramount+ announced that a series-based television show was going to debut on the streaming service. Originally, it was supposed to be a television show that followed the plot of the movie. That plan changed after Alan Rickman, one of the co-stars, passed away. According to reports, they are still considering the series.
Their streaming slate, which includes both in-development and already airing shows, as well as the future of each project, was the subject of the bigger article. The concept of Galaxy Quest is that it will remain at its original location, which at the time was Paramount+. Actor Justin Long made his feature debut in the original, which also starred Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver (in one of her greatest roles), Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, and Enrico Colantoni.
Given the initial intentions for the show, we do not yet know which version of the series Paramount+ and CBS are interested in. Both the film’s writer, Robert Gordon, and director, Dean Parisot, were connected to the new series with the original concept. Then there were other possibilities for the series, one of which was written by Paul Scheer, and another by Simon Pegg, a former Star Trek cast member, who planned to collaborate with Succession writer Georgia Pritchett on his own Galaxy Quest interpretation.
We’ll have to wait to get more information, but this is the biggest update we’ve gotten in years. The film’s foundation is a tribute to Star Trek and a critique of the behaviour expected of actors in this genre. Allen’s portrayal of Jason Nesmith was a direct critique of William Shatner’s interactions with franchise fans in general. His response to Trekkies is notorious, so it’s lovely to see how Galaxy Quest addresses it. The topic of the 1999 movie can be approached in a variety of ways in the new series. The plot involving the television show’s stars might be continued, or it could also recreate the fictional series, as The Orville did. At least it is still on Paramount’s radar till we find out more.
Never give up! Never Surrender!
