Simon Pegg Says Marvel Losing Edgar Wright’s ANT-MAN is “Their Loss” [Video]

Sky Movies Interview – Simon Pegg

Now that Ant-Man has a new director and writer
we may never see Edgar Wright’s ambitious vision of the character.
Director Peyton Reed is going to be directing a new script by writer
Adam McKay. Actor Simon Pegg, who worked with Wright on Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End,
sent out a tweet that echoes the sadness all geeks have about the
    script.

    Feel lucky
that I got to read @EdgarWright and
Joe Cornish’s Ant-Man script. Daring, fun, funny and hugely exciting.
    Shame we won’t see it.

Ant-Man is a movie about a criminal who steals a secret formula that allows him to shrink to the size of an ant and then grow large again. It’s a bizarre concept and it seemed only Wright was willing to gamble on the character. He even went so far as to produce an Ant-Man clip to showcase his vision of the hero.

At Sky Movies, Pegg was recently asked about the situation and gave some insightful comments about how the studio may have pushed Wright out. The video is now marked private, but here’s what he said:

    “I think is a terrible shame I think I
get why perhaps it’s happened I think maybe they they want particular
thing in line with the particular other thing. But if you hire a
director who has a particular vision you’ve got to expect him or her to
make a such-and-such film and to write film and that’s what that script
was. And it was, it was interesting, and the character had a real
journey. I you can’t really say too much about it because obviously
it’s not my thing but…umm… it’s their loss.”

Frankly, with this very public battle with the studio
over Ant-Man may cast a pall over the whole project. We may never get
the ambitious film that Wright wanted to make. Will we get another
    cookie-cutter superhero now?(Via /Film)

I was looking forward to it, but now it will be a wait till it hits DVD.
I imagine this will be MARVEL'S first let down movie.

they are cutting corners to not well-known characters… that is going to hurt. main characters will make the fat cash, the lesser-known a third…

What would be awesome is if Wright and Pegg were to do a version of his Ant-Man. Pant-Man?

    4. MsMariah on June 17, 2014 6:54 pm

It is definitely their loss. With all of the trouble they seem to be having getting this movie off the ground, it's not looking good.

    5. Maurice Mitchell on June 18, 2014 2:14 am

I had high hopes that making the movie quirky would take away from the ridiculousness of a superhero that shrinks. Now I'm not sure Ms. Mariah.

    6. Maurice Mitchell on June 18, 2014 2:15 am

That would be perfect!  Tweet him Tony!

Let's hope not Jeremy. Thor was once a lesser known character. Now…

Those two changed the game Pat, but if it's anything like Green Hornet we're all in trouble.

    9. Maurice Mitchell on June 18, 2014 5:41 am

Wright's vision was the only reason I was interested in this movie David.

really… i never thought he was, fingers crossed.
