Motivational Geek Quote
"Perhaps today is a good day to die! Ramming speed!" - Lt. Worf (Star Trek: First Contact)

We got another Liebster Award! This one is from Craig at "Let's Get Out Of Here."
Interesting trivia about this award. if you do a Google search for "Blog Award" you'll find the most common question is "Who created the Liebster blog award?" No one knows, but it might be German for "darling."

Craig hit us with 11 questions, but I'm shrinking the requirements down to five.
1. What is the very earliest movie memory you have?
Watching Superman III at the drive-in and being scared out of my mind on the trip home through the woods. That cyborg freaked me out.

2. Favorite moviegoing snack?
Popcorn with caramel corn seasoning. Thank you Harkins theaters!

3. Do you enjoy "so bad they're good" movies?
I love them!

4. What celebrity would you most like to meet?
Tim Burton. They say he's surprisingly normal.

5. Name a guilty pleasure in pop culture.
Johnny Mathis "Wonderful, Wonderful." It was in the incredibly creepy X-Files episode
"Home" and I fell in love with it for some reason.

6. MST3K, Elvira, or Joe Bob Briggs?
Hard to choose, but MST3K.

7. Has a movie ever scared you so bad you had trouble sleeping; or made you nauseous?
The 1986 movie Night of the Creeps. I watched it in bed and couldn't get out of bed for hours. I was scared those slugs were crawling around the room.

8. Give me your dream cast for a remake of anything.
Green Lantern. Anyone besides Ryan Reynolds.

9. What is the perfect breakfast?
French toast with sausage.

10. Police Academy - can't believe they made that many; or why did they stop?
I'm surprised they stopped making them frankly. not that I liked them, but they were easy money for the studios. "Stealing?! Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing! Did you?" - Homer (The Simpsons)

Trivia Question (Answer at the end of the post)
The Back to Future films starred Michael J. Fox, but he wasn't the first to play the role of Marty McFly. Who was the first actor to play the character?

Last Week's Bonus Trivia Answers
Easy: Name three actors that starred in The Dark Knight Rises and Inception
"[Tom Hardy], Joseph Gordon Levitt, and [Cillian] Murphy. Also Michael Caine, but you only said three" - Alex J. C.
"..Joseph Gordon Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy" - Melissa B.
Hard: During the opening bank robbery, the Joker wears a rubber mask. Cesar Romero in the TV
show Batman wore a mask that was almost identical. Which episode was it and why did he wear it?
Cesar Romero wore an almost identical mask in the episode "The Joker Is Wild" when he was playing the operatic clown Pagliacci.

Some of these may be familiar if you follow us us on Twitter @thegeektwins. We share news and fun stuff all week.
  • Christopher Eccleston (former Doctor Who) will be the villain attacking Asgard in the Thor sequel Thor: The Dark World. He'll be "Malekith The Accursed", leader of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim
  • Vintage Cheerios commercial with Herman Munster. Does he make it look delicious or creepy?
  • Ever since I found out about Lenny B. Robinson, otherwise known as "Lamborghini Batman," I've been a huge fan of the guy. His sick boy found comfort in Batman DVDs. After he died, Robinson donates his time and sizeable income to visiting kids in the hospital in a Batman costume and Batmobile. Here's his latest sighting. The hospital said, "Patients are having a blast with his visit." Can you keep from smiling?
  • Alex has his August movie list up along with his thoughts on them.Total Recall is the only thing I'm looking forward to. And that's a stretch.
  • Compare Bane original IMAX prologue voice vs. The Dark Knight Rises in this video comparison. There's definitely a difference.
  • When Batman joined Star Fleet the Borg gave up
  • Producer Bryan Singer made a surprising statement this week. The X-Men: First Class sequel will be called X-Men: Days of Future Past. Then, he said that the time-traveling timeline will help tie in all of the X-Men movies. "I think there’s a strong desire to broaden out the universe. I mean, the X-Men universe is every bit on its own as big as the Marvel universe and I think it’s time to reach out and explore it and perhaps even bring some connectivity between the films,as Marvel’s done so well. You may see some of that, I don’t know (laughs)." Do you think they can tie all the movies together?
  • G.I. Joe: Retaliation's director Jon M. Chu is working on a new Masters Of The Universe movie. No word if Dolph Lundgren will be available.
  • Best Iron Man costume EVER.
Trivia Answer
Michael J. Fox had always been the first choice for Marty, but he was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts with his work on the sitcom Family Ties. "Family Ties" co-star Meredith Baxter was pregnant and they couldn't afford to let Fox go. He was basically carrying the show without her.

Based on his performance in the film Mask Zemeckis and Gale cast Eric Stoltz as Marty. Four weeks into filming Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale felt that Stoltz wasn't right for the role and Stoltz agreed.

By this time, Baxter had her baby and was back on the show, so Goldberg agreed to let Fox go off to make the film. But only on the condition that he had to keep his full schedule on "Family Ties." Fox rearranged his schedule to work on both projects.

Every day during production of the film, he drove straight to the movie set after taping the TV show. He averaged about three to four hours of sleep a day. Most of the filming was done at night from 6pm to 6am. The the daylight scenes were filmed on weekends. He was not allowed to go on Back to the Future promotional tours.

Bonus Trivia Question
Easy: What car did Doc Brown turn into a time machine?
Medium: Name three actors who appeared in all three of the Back to the Future films
Hard: Why did Disney turn down producing the film?

DeLorean. And I think it was because they thought the son-mother relationship in the past was too much.

  2. Alex J. CavanaughAugust 3, 2012 at 8:13 AM

And you have to go with MST3K. Ever see them do the live Riff Trax shows? it's awesome in a crowd. Thanks for the mention of my August movie preview.

  3. I think the cyborg thing in Superman III freaked me out back then too. It's always weird when they talk about someone else in a famous role like Burt Reynolds as Han Solo or Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones. It's just really hard to imagine it that way.

  4. btw, for your medium question I think Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson, and I think Thomas F. Wilson who played Biff and his relatives. And whoever played his girlfriend. And the dog.

  5. Though it might not have been the exact same dog. There's something to go look up on IMDB.

  6. Ryan Reynolds was awesome. Next you'll say that he shouldn't have worn so much green!

  7. Tony, Ryan is great, but he was too campy. They should have stuck with serious and dropped the comedy.

  8. Yeah, I know Pat. I just kept hearing her screaming while being pulled inside. Tom Selleck? Would he drive a sportscar with his shirt open?

  9. I do love Riff Trax and can see how the live show would be even better!

  10. I never knew they had to wait for Michael J Fox. Interesting. So glad they did.

  11. Yeah, it wouldn't have been the same with Stoltz Ciara.

  12. That quote from Worf is great. Batman on Star Trek would be awesome.

  13. Congratulations on the award! Enjoyed reading your answers.

  14. Great answers! Thanks for those!

    1. Jeremy I never caught this and I had to look up the answer. Great question! Seger's song was called "Yesterday Rules" and "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News

  16. jeremy [retro-zombie]August 4, 2012 at 6:19 AM

medium: marty, mom, doc brown, biff, strickland, goldie and me!

  17. jeremy [retro-zombie]August 4, 2012 at 6:20 AM

i met James Tolkan [mr. strickland] two summers ago... very nice guy!

  18. Congrats on the award! And I love the Munsters Cheerios commercial - very retro!

  19. Cool! Thought I'd leave the middle one for someone else.
And the next Riff Trax live show it August 16 - they are doing Manos: Hands of Fate. Check to see if any theater near you has picked it up. It was a blast seeing MST3K The Movie in the theater, but seeing the live broadcast with a group of MST3K fanatics is beyond awesome and twice as funny. The crowd just feeds on itself!

  20. Congrats on the award and thanks for the shout out. You have some fun answers here.
