Jackie Robinson is the Answer to the Ultimate Question

Jackie Robinson

For baseball fans, Jackie Robinson is a legend. He became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball (MLB). When the Brooklyn Dodgers started him in 1947 he broke the baseball color line. His signing marked the end of racial segregation in professional baseball that started in the 1880s and had forced black players to the "Negro" leagues. He Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. In 1997 his number "42" is the first number to be retired in any sport in any pro league. That started a tradition followed by the NFL, NBA, and others, He's a true legend.

For sci-fi fans, the number "42" means something else. In the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams the number is the answer to the "Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything". It's calculated by the massive supercomputer "Deep Thought" after 7.5 million years. It turned out that the computer hadn't been given the right question. So the answer remains a mystery. The enigma of that number has followed fans for decades.

But what if the two are related? What if the answer to the ultimate question is: "Who is Jackie Robinson"?

The world may never know.
