How many times has the Doctor used the alias John Smith? Let's find out. Last week's episode of Doctor Who ("The Caretaker") had him posing as a school caretaker named John Smith. While we don't know the Doctor's real name, he's used this fake name many times. Here's a list of all of the ones he's used it on the show, although there are a bunch more times he used the nickname in the books and comics.

The Wheel in Space (1968)

Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon) is looking for a fake name to give the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton). When he sees a piece of equipment manufactured by John Smith & Associates, he first gives the Doctor the name.

Doctor Who TV Movie (1996)

The Doctor is shot and, while being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, Chang Lee (Yee Jee Tso) reluctantly fills out the Doctor's hospital admittance forms and coincidentally fills in the name John Smith.

When trying to infiltrate Sweetville, The Eleventh Doctor introduces himself and Clara as Doctor and Mr. Smith to Mrs Gillyflower.

The Caretaker (2014)

When the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) goes undercover at Coal Hill School he poses as a caretaker named "John Smith."
